View Full Version : keyboard key to dive to radar depth
Playing TMO I would use the ";" key to dive to radar depth. But, I decided to play FOTRS for a while and would like the same key function. So I inserted the command.cfg file from TMO into the FOTRS cfg folder, but the ";" key still sends the boat in a "deep dive". How can I get this key to simply go to radar depth?

TMOkeys! Works every time, even in stock game.

:06: I am using the command.cfg from TMO but the ";" key casues deep dive and not snorkel depth. I see that cmd line 195 has this Key0=0xBA,C,"Comma".
So, I should use the "comma" key which on my keyboard is the < , key, but this takes me to the external view of the previous unit. I am confused which key to use.

Load up my TMOkeys mod, hit semicolon and you'll find yourself at radar depth.
Running TMO 2.2 now and ; sends me to radar depth. I hit it with my fat fingers when all I wanna do is go rudder neutral all the time.

And if you find yourself with one of the earlier subs, the radar depth key sets you just 2' too deep to get the antennae out of the water. You have to click to about 36' and that is radar depth on the early boats.
Same thing applies with periscopes. Periscope depth works okay for the attack scope, but is about 5' too deep for the observation scope. I use the observation scope to attack with at night, so I automatically just click on the depth meter to 48'.
All under TMO2.2/RSRDC v502

where is a layout for the TMO keyboard. When I hit the E and W key to scroll through the aft tubes, I blow ballast instead.

In the documentation folder of the TMO folder that you install, there is a TMO keymap and .......it's the SH3 keymap, just a little different from the TMO keymap. Most of the keys are correct.
If you check it, the W key cycles through the bow torpedoes, and the Y key cycles through the aft torpedoes. E is emergency surface, just as it is in unmodded SH4.
Guess I'll have to do a little tweaking on that map. But it will only be a tiny amount. The map is mostly good. Doesn't the F1 help screen give you the keys? I know Ducimus tweaked the help screens.

there is no keyboard map in the download that I extracted.

This is what my command.cfg has -
[Cmd195]
Name=Snorkel_depth
Ctxt=1
Str=1033
Key0=0xBA,C,"Comma"
;Key0=0x44,s,"Shift+D"
which looks like yours in the TMOkeys,
[Cmd195]
Name=Snorkel_depth
Ctxt=1
Str=1033
Key0=0xBA,C,"Comma"
but running FOTRS 1.3, when I hit the ";" key I still go into deep dive. Am I missing some other change? When I just play TMO it works!
Does your TMOkeys change anything else besides command.cfg or other lines within that .cfg besides CMD 195?

TMOkeys keeps or reestablishes all TMO keyboard commands and works with stock, GFO, RFB, FOTRS, or any other mod. It also has assigned <shift-i> to "hey bub, tell me what ship that is out there!" That's not part of TMO but I snuck it in there.....:D
Edit, the keyboard configuration file should be in your analog to C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\Mods\100 TriggerMaru_Overhaul_2\Documentation\Keyboard_layo ut.jpg.
The problem is in the FOTRS Sub files . Cfg's. The "sub".cfg files have snorkel_depth set at 400ft. I changed those and ";" dives to the new depth settings which I took from TMO's sub files.
PS. Thanks RR for ur recommendation re Game Booster 3 (another thread), but I'm used to using the F12 key to go to external view, which is also used by GB3. How can I setup a key other than F12 in SHIV for external view?

Okay. I have the keyboard display for TMO keys installed. Only a few a different from stock. However, my pause key, the backspace key, does not pause the game.
I like the radar depth key. As for the target ID target key combination (Shift + I keys,) there are enough Icons on the HUD that I could live without it. However, I would have liked a key that takes the boat to around 30 foot depth so you can still recharge batteries and maintain a lookout using the TBT.

The map in the Trigger Maru Overhauled Documentation directory is an SH3 keyboard map. That is not the same as a TMO map. So I made one.
Not full resolution but you get the idea. Corrections? Amplifications? Obfuscations? Fabrications?

thanks for the pic? I do not see a pause key? Maybe TMO keys do not have one? I need it to pause the game to get reading for the Optical Targeting Correction. If you cannot pause the game quickly, the periscope moves. If it moves, getting accurate range and Aob readings is problematic. Maybe Keymapper is the solution, but I hate to learn that program just to input a Pause function.

Here's the deal. While pause is not very useful, a single key to return to 1x is. So the backspace key was set for 1x instead of 0x (pause). But here's the really great part. <Backspace> plus <minus>=0x. You're paused! That's much more valuable than a single pause key. You're going to want an instant 1x much more often than an instant pause. It really helps the flow of the game.

when I tap the back space + the (-) key at TC1, nothing happens. I have a leveno laptap with TMO keys enabled as the last mod. However, Game Boster seems to work really well. Is there another way to work a pause key.
I have the most solid set up I have had in some time, plus I have enabled french and swing music on the gramaphone to pass the time as I chase two warships and a merchant. I started closing on them several hours ago, and I stopped to make popcorn and forgot my boat was stopped. By the time I returned to the chase, the ships I was chasing had gone off the radar screen. I just pased them on a parallel course, and will turn for an attack in a few minutes.
I have alos enabled Fred's SH4 randomizer and loaded desk top photos of Veronica Lake, Rita Hayworth, and Ann Sheridan. I did not see any pinup on my boat using the Randomizer, but I am in a Gar in 1942, so Fred's pinups for boat may not be set up to work on those.

Maybe I said that wrong. I meant, press the backspace to go to 1x and then the (-) key to get to zero.
Is the SH4 Keyboard Configurator anywhere around here? I'll have to check. If not, it lives on my hard drive and I'll upload it.

I use the "enter" key for 1X. Works great. To pause hit enter and than -.
All your time compression keys are right there. Moved the fire torpedo key to "F" key, All your torpedo keys are right there, can open the doors, cycle all tubes and fire with one hand.

I tap the backspace key to get to 1x. When I tap the "-" key I remain at 1x.
BTW, I must have been hit by a circular torpedoe on a recent mission. I fired at a merchant. One shot hit it, but then my ship suffered significant damage -- from where? I don't have clue unless a torpedoe ran in a circle and hit my boat.

I use TMO, mine works just as R Robbins described, but I also get a pause when I press ctrl + bkspce. I like that combo as I can one-hand it quickly.
