View Full Version : Can Someone Please help me get the most out of SH5

Hello everyone,

I've recently returned to playing SH5, and it has been a struggle. I've been wrestling with glitches and crashing and mods, and I was just hoping someone could give me some advice on the best way to get SH5 up and running smoothly.

Some of the problems I've encountered so far include frame rate drops on the mission select screen. At first I thought it was because of OH II mod, so I used the light version and I was able to select a mission. However, in the game itself, when I click on the navigation map the game slows right down again. So there is something strange going on with the maps it seems and I'm not sure if it has to do with OH II or not. Could it be a mod I have or don't have? I've never had this happen before. Any thoughts?

Also, I installed the mods to allow you to upgrade the boat and crew abilities, but in the game, I still can't upgrade without renown or promotion points. Do I have the wrong mods?

On my first patrol, I also noticed some ships that crashed into shore. I've noticed that on some mod lists people don't use TDW IRAI anymore. Should I still be using it? If so, where does it go into the mod list?

I think those are the only problems I've encountered so far. I find that saving, reloading, saving, reloading helps iron out some graphic glitches, so I just need to solve these last few problems and I think I will be good to go. Thanks again for any suggestions or help people might have.

You have so many new mods that I would take out the Magnum Opus which is bit outdated in my opinion. IRAI is a must, otherwise planes won't attack you and destroyers are silly.

I dunno about IRAI anymore. It was 1940 and I was 10km away from an escorted passenger liner. I was still (and had been for an hour and a half), at 32m down and hadn't moved at all. Suddenly the lead destroyer heads RIGHT AT ME and starts doing search circles in my general area.

How did he know I was there from that distance at that depth? Kept getting closer and closer as I snuck away slowly. Then a fog rolled in and I was able to jump to the surface and flank away. A day and a half later he found me again, kept me under water for 5 hours never once being dissuaded by depth (90m) or decoys. Finally died when I went to 100m down and popped from hull damage from airplanes earlier in the patrol.

It's not really "challenging" as opposed to "impossible to enjoy" from my experience so far. Planes attacking is cool, but escorts are a bit cheaty and discouraging it seems.

Are there any recent news on the new version of IRAI? Playing with the cheaty escorts really does get annoying. I think I remember TDW saying he found a way to actually make the escorts use their intelligence instead of relying on cheats...

Sorry to sound like a broken record, but sometimes I just can't believe the state this game was put out in.:damn:

deppendable i usly let the destroyver head to me and as its 500m head on torp loss usly sinks the bugger then i make a fulls peed to left or rigt and take the other destoryers if there anyone

and i havs IRAI ....

Well I think I will be putting in IRAI, but any suggestions for my other issues? I think the upgrades one could probably be easily solvable, but the performance drops on the mission maps and navigation maps are making it next to impossible to play. It must be a problem with one of the new mods, because I've never experienced this kind of problem before. I'm thinking OH II has something to do with it, but even using the light version of the mod I get the problem, so maybe something else is the problem.

The stoianm one should be after the main one since it changes the prices to 0. By installing it first, it's getting overwritten by the EquipmentUpgrades one and not doing anything.

You also have a huge mix of graphics and environmental mods, many of which might be conflicting. I think the DE has a lot of the stoianm stuff in it already and it's probably not meant to be used with sober's mods as well since it's all the same kind of thing.

FX update should be one of the first things you install. And I think a bunch of your other mods might be mirrored in the MO install, might check that.

Basically just uninstall things till it's stable. :)
