new steam dl of sh5...ran well for a couple of days...now when i click on captains log..or use kboard short cut...game freezes...all other seems ok..what do you all suggest..a re install?...a mod, none applied so far...
a re install should be a last resort...
does sh5 require a re install every couple of days?....how do i post in the bugs and gliches?...the only tab is reply...
only started using steam for cliffs of dover, and sh5...also running warthog and fsx acc...i build my own rigs and develope add ons for fsx....sh5 doesnt push my rig as hard as cliffs of dover.....
some things i know...and some things i dont...thats why ime here...you all know the things i dont......great subsim site....with my supreme patience, and my tolerance of the inevitable bugs.......most of which are just the background static of existance...i may travel far in my iron sea horse..triumph..

Sober, out of boyish curiosity, I just looked at your MOD list and was wondering what the changes to the MAIN.cfg mentioned on the bottom of your MOD list do and if I would risk anything by copying them to my MAIN.cfg?
Thanks

I find that with these TC settings and using TDW option TC1OnAnyMessageBoxText = True the game will drop to 1TC on (enemy)smoke spotted or ship or plane spotted on the horizon every time . 256TC seems to be stable . 512TC and over doesnt seem stable to me . Running a good system btw . TC1OnAnyMessageBoxText = True can be turned off in game anytime by a hud button up the top right . Dont forget to uninstall the UI mod before changing the options and then reinstall via jsgme (mod enabler) . You can make these changes anytime either in base or on patrol . I forgot , if using real nav the game will drop to 1 TC before you hit any land .

Those are time compression changes. sober's settings will give you a very slow and safe gameplay experience.
For values with a comma, the first number is the default value while the second value is with Travel Mode active.
These define pause and real time, don't change these.
TimeStop=0
RealTime=1
This means that if you get the "shallow waters" message the game will slow down to 1x TC. Travel mode lets you race through these areas at 32x.
LandProximity=1,32
This is if you've taken critical damage, again 1x or 32x for TM.
CriticalDamage=1,32
This value allows your crew bonuses to still apply. I think by default they are 32, so this lets you go as high as 256x and keep crew bonuses.
CrewEfficiency=256
Spotted an airplane? Probably want to drop to real time!
AirEnemyDetected=1,32
Sound shuts off over 8x TC
SoundEffects=8
This is usually the same as the 3DRender below, basically if you're in a 3D view you're limited to 32x TC
CharacterAnim=32
Send explanatory really...
FriendDetected=1,32
EnemyDetected=1,32
Got a radio report about a convoy? Realtime!
RadioReport=1,32
Goes along with the 3DRender value really, 32x cap
Particles=32
Are you hunting or being hunted? Default to real time.
PrayState=1,32
HunterState=1,32
Max TC in 3D views
3DRender=32
Max TC totally... default is 8192, but with all the mods these days anything over 1024 is gonna be really difficult to handle, sober limits the max to 256 or 132 in Travel Mode
Maximum=256,132
I personally use a mixture of the somewhat dangerous but easy to use default values and some of sober's ideas. The crossing from Germany to England is... extensive with a max of 256x and in the Atlantic you're talking an hour and a half real time to cross the Atlantic.
So I went with:
TimeStop=0
RealTime=1
LandProximity=8,128
CriticalDamage=1,32
CrewEfficiency=256
AirEnemyDetected=1,8
SoundEffects=8
CharacterAnim=32
FriendDetected=32,256
EnemyDetected=1,64
RadioReport=32,256
Particles=32
PrayState=1,32
HunterState=1,32
3DRender=32
Maximum=1024
Now, even though I have maximum at 1024, I rarely go above 256 anyway. But I wanted to leave the choice there for crossing the great open seas in less than an hour due to play time restraints. Around harbors or while hunting though I usually keep it to 64 or 128 though.

okay so its probably me.....back for a refit...in dock...tested capt log...no freeze.....its going to take a bit of time to figure it out...but its all good so far....apart from a stationary ship which seems to ignore me and my torpedoes...its pretty much the same with many simulators...ie the modders and solution providers, fix what the people being paid cant.triumph.....medals all round....
