"travellers' site" = what in Amurkin English? An encampment for people who otherwise would have no fixed address?
Edit: never mind, found a Wiki.

Very interesting. I did not realize they were still around. Even here in the US. I had thought they were pretty much integrated into society by now.
My parents, being largely Irish by heritage, talked about the "Irish gypsy" communities that existed during their youth, but that they hadn't heard of them after the 1950s or so, not in Iowa and Illinois, anyway.
:yeah:

Heard a bit of Jeremy Vine's BBCR2 show and he had a caller saying, "These are people's homes, where will they go?".
My response is they've had 10 years to find somewhere to go.
I have little sympathy for them, if they want to live in this country (as opposed to live in Ireland where iirc they (some of them) own a lot of land) then they need to follow the rules of the land rather than pick and choose which apply to them (HR?).
I'd had reason to have been in a traveller's camp near Doncaster a few years ago, they are very insular and insulting, and seemingly very well off - but from what means, none had a job? :hmmm:
Occasionally travellers will pitch up near my home town, and send the kids to a local schools as and when they want to, with no regard to the school rules that every other child has to follow. If I tried that, what would happen to me? :hmmm:
No camels had been hurt i hope:D

The law is being enforced as would have been the case for any other section of society.
They have been offered "alternative bricks and mortar accommodation" and every part of the justice system has been explored and exhausted.
I don't feel that the authorities have been left with any choice in this case.

But they are celebrities, ordinary laws don't apply to them:rotfl2:

I wouldn't know about that.
One thing that troubles me is those who have there faces covered and are suspected to have been bussed in for such an occasion/eviction :hmmm:

Any of the interviews during this long running farce would prove it.

You will find those black flag muppets at any "event".
One thing I did see on the news, one protester hanging locked to the scaffold and two chained through a concrete filled drum. Once the baliffs were in and access was secured why didn't the police just leave them chained up where they was, they couldn't throw things or really threaten anyone, they couldn't have gotten in anyones way....and there is going to be a frost tonight:03:

I can't believe you mean that....but the thought does appeal to me :DL
The authorities are on a hiding to nothing if there are injuries to these people despite the fact they appear to be the ones throwing things etc.
They've had fair warning and notice to leave peacefully so anything short of overwhelming force or brutality should be squarely on their shoulders...it's about time they were made aware of the consequences of their actions.
I wonder how the law abiding rate and tax payers of the area will feel when the local council announces how many millions the operation has cost and what vital services may be cut to foot the bill.

Why not?
It is a very straightforward issue over breaches of planning regulations, what exactly are these protesters protesting against?
The authorities are on a hiding to nothing if there are injuries to these people despite the fact they appear to be the ones throwing things etc.
Thats why they should leave those protesters alone, they have been taken out of the equation as regards blocking the eviction, so now just leave them till they are begging for police help to be set free instead of letting them play up the drama for the cameras.
I wonder how the law abiding rate and tax payers of the area will feel when the local council announces how many millions the operation has cost and what vital services may be cut to foot the bill.
Thats the core of the problem, it often occurs that the intent is to make law enforcement prohibitively expensive.

Quote from one traveller on the news a while ago -
We're travellers, and now what? Do they want us to live on the road, like dogs?
Well that would be the general idea behind being a traveller!!! :damn:

BBC NEWS:
'Dale Farm' travellers to be moved after 10 years of negotiations.
You're not much of a traveller if you've been in one place for a decade.

They're playing Civilization. It's still their first turn when they just settled down. Wait until they build their first settler, then you'll see problems :DL

Oh believe me, we've more than enough settlers here already but I'll not go into that here :03:
I hate tabloid celebrities in the UK.
Reality TV isn't doing it right, by all means put them all on a island, or lock them in house - but dont film it!, just leave them there :shucks:
