View Full Version : Mine damage or Shell hole?
I was playing the warship mod and I had encountered a convoy. part way into attacking my cheif says their is flooding in the bow quarters. I fixed the damage and whent about decimating the convoy. later when day light came I went to inspect the damge to the hull and saw near the bow there was a big gaping hole. So I wondered if I had struck a mine or a light cruiser that was in the convoy landed a shot below my water line. Take a look at the fallowing image and tell me what you think?

I think your boat should be on the bottom. That hole is huge!:o It looks like it went completely through; most likely a shell.......or Bernard had the world's largest and most devastating fart

Bernard was foisted on the Kriegsmarine by Dowly in post #1 of this thread:

He's the guy on your boat who fails to see the destroyer bearing down on you from 500 meters away, who forgets to close the hatch after sounding the crash dive alarm, who plays chicken with the locks at Wilhelmsaven and drowns your entire crew in their own harbor, who destroys a ship 150 meters away with your deck gun only to have the resulting explosion kill your own gun crew with flying debris, who can't remember the proper procedure for flushing the head and precipitates the flooding that sends your boat straight down to Davy Jones' Locker... in short, he's the idiot that you blame all your blunders, distractions, and foolish decisions on. :D

With a hole that big, it's amazing you're still afloat. My money's on a mine although I reckon we may never know for sure. :DL

I modded the game files that make it so that my ship is invunreable to damage thought I can still be sunk byh collisons with land and subnets.

Bernard is a legend around here, so much so that Brag uses him in his Balz stories.
He also smokes on night watch up on deck. Forgets to close induction valve when diving. Always has a unbalanced load of wash running while rigged for silent running.

On the bright side then the 'mod' is definitely working. :DL

When the AOB has been set up 90 degrees port instead of starboard it means Bernhard has been playing with the dials.
When your sub runs aground because you're navigator has plotted a course straight across an island, Bernhard was on watch.
When you're on your shakedown cruise, and running some manual targeting trials, and for some reason a torpedo accidentally leaves it's tube and connects with the Bismark in an orgy of fire and destruction, Bernhard was on the button.
When you're playing tag with a destroyer, accidentally order "Return to course" and your once silent sub shudders into life and roars away at ahead standard, it's Bernhard with his foot on the pedal, a dopey grin on his face, whooping and hollering while you're screaming "NO NO NO NO NO... Aww HELL!".

Bernard must of been on the deck gun onch when we encounterd a spannish passenger/cargo and we acidently opened up on it, luckly me and the watch office managed to get the gun crew to cease fire before we cause any fatal damage.

I had less luck. Bernard was firing on an torpedoboat at Wilhelmshafen because he didn't heard the "cease fire" order. So he might have though "Oh the Tommies have german Patrol boats now" because it was really far away (maybe 250 meters) he hit it two times and i was like "Please don't sink!! DON'T SINK!!!" and it sunk.....:shifty:

This 'Bernard' you speak of sounds like quite the promising young chap. Perhaps he should be put in charge of his own boat... :D :O:

He was, briefly. Coincidentally, Wilhelmshavn burned to the ground during the same time period.

Since the end of the war he's been working in the canned drinks industry.

Bernard was on the Moltke's fore 11" gun and sank an american merchant on our raid on Halifax on our 8th patrol in late 1940, I then put him on the Moltke's aft turret and ended up sinking a american modern tanker.

I let Bernard fire a torpedo once.
Luckily we had time to get most our crew off the boat before it circled around.
