Singing all my Rowdy Friends Coming Over, or whatever it is for Monday night football...
Seems he compared some GOP members playing golf with Obama and a few dems like playing golf with Hitler.
Then called in an analogy
Maybe Hank is just racist........

Comparing Obama to Hitler is racist?
He didn't compare Obama to Hitler. He was simply trying to draw an extreme parallel.
Also this is relevant.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law
It is the tactic of taking opposing things and trying to draw them as far apart as possible, usually evoking fascism or Nazism. Used as an attempted "argument ender".
Look through heated debates in more hostile forums, you will see that Godwins law applies. It started off as a humorous observation that holds actual scientific value.

Yeah I know all about Godwins law. But i'm not Godwin so his laws do not apply.

So did you find it offensive, or simply a man expressing his opinion, as outlined in our first and most important amendment?
I think it was just a good ol boy who forgot how harsh the media can twist his words.

Did you even read the OP?

So when he said the President was a genocidal Nazi maniac and the Republicans were the Jews how did he think the media would twist his words?

He didn't make a direct blatant reference. He was simply trying to draw an extreme analogy as I said above.
Did you read the quote, or are you kneejerk reaction based? Seriously it was harmless.

The country-singer was on FOX & Friends and was asked to breakdown the GOP field when he said that the golf summit between Obama and Boehner was one of the "biggest political mistakes ever" and added "it'd be like Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu."
He never specified which one was which there did he?
Hmmm???

It was a poorly thought out statement, regardless of his intent, and since ABC/ESPN is a private corporation the first amendment doesn't apply here.
As I said in the NFL thread, I wish Faith Hill would say something stupid and then we could get rid of that awful Sunday Night Football intro too.

He most certainly did.
Did you read the quote
That is a rather silly question.
or are you kneejerk reaction based?
Hey stop stealing my lines.
He never specified which one was which there did he?
Did you read the exchange or just one tiny little snippet?
He was asked about his statement, who did he call the enemy?
So is the enemy the Nazis, are the Republicans the enemy?
Simple question for ya.
How many times in less than a minute did he specify who he was calling what?
A more complicated question for ya with three possible answers.
Was he off his face? genuinely just a dumb ignorant prat? a combination of the two?
Hmmm??? ...you didn't read what he said did you:O:

Yep, but we know which ones he was referring to Hitler don't we?
When you're that stupid any private agency has the right to send you packing don't they? He used his rights of speech and they used their right to dump him.....
Still, I agree to the hyprocrisy of it, if a liberal makes such comments seldom is it a problem.
Comparing Obama to Hitler is racist?
Of course not.
Ok so its not too smart to you say that stuff on TV (unless you are a comedian) :DL it was just a silly joke - alot of hysteria over nothing. People should lighten up.
Its not like it was ever gonna hurt Obamas feelings or anything, he wont give a rats.

I agree with you there! But racist accusations would not surprise me either. That card has been played a lot as of late.

Its over played for sure and abused, in some cases - those who play it are the true racists, the issue of race wont immediately enter your mind if you are really a non-racist. (And you dont need to be White to be racist either, people seem to forget that)
Another reason I hate race card abusers, they damage the credibility of REAL victims of racism.
Anyway I dont really know much about this Hank Jr, but who he is is'nt really important - its ridiculous he lost his job over one stupid vague comment. The punishment doesnt fit the crime. A slap on the wrist would have been more than sufficient.
I heard what he said and my god -if people find that offensive, they should try watching an episode of Southpark, it will have them throthing at the mouth! :D

I think it was a stupid thing to say but no one ever accused Hank Jr of being smart.
Was there malicious intent in his comment? No.
I think some people are taking what was said too seriously and applying a meaning that was not intended.
Makes me think if there were other reasons for them wanting to fire ole Hanky.

Maybe Gretchen thought he was being a slimey creep and complained from Fox which meant ESPN could drop him for the political advocacy, being a slimey creep and being a pillock.

For not being so smart his new song about this, is a number 1 hit. You can keep the change.

those who play it are the true racists
That would mean the song would have to be racist, because people couldn't just play the song because they agree with it. So.... how is the song racist?
There is nothing at all in the lyrics about race, color, ethnicity or sexual orientation.
Or is it just that anything that is "anti-Obama" is automatically racist?

Hank Jr is overrated anyway!
Hank Senior and Hank III are the real shizzle!

I think he was referring to playing the race card, not playing the song :know:

Ohhhhh ok. Because a number of folks (locally) have said the song is racist, so I may have misunderstood.
Penguin

@Haplo: Are you sure those folks were English speakers? :DL
Obviously the lyrics changed over the years, but I checked out the '89 version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hB9HaHx9EY) and the 2011 version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHTVSmiJC-U) and couldn't hear any racist reference. Maybe it's a hidden message when you play it backwards :haha:
And those people should certainly tell it to Cindy Blackman who played drums in this vid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MWSjKX7kUA) of the song.

I am interested in how you can equate being smart with having a number 1 hit that is being given away for free?
I was not aware that the two had anything in common.

I guess he could give it away, after all the money he made on the interviews about this, I like the song, I think it is pretty catchy, if anything good came out of this the Tea party got a rally song and a new hero. espn, evil socalist propoganda network. Like Hank said there are other networks that carry football, and that it, is his song, so I think we will see him on Fox. So Are You Ready For Some Football ????????????????????

It's pretty smart to give away a song for free if you:
- want to spread it and have as many folks as possible listen to it
- want to get public opinion on your side
- want to claim that you have a No.1 hit
:know:
It must be a very interesting world that yubba lives in.
Yup pretty nice here in Florida, got the liberals on the run [they ran through the bushes they ran through the brambles, and they ran through places a rabbit couldn't go], but will be heading for the liberal hell hole, New York State for my annual deer hunt, too see how small of a deer I can get, this time on the family farm. Time to get back in the woods and bust some caps, also time to sharpen the guns and clean the knives. Welcome to my world, And a Country Boy Can Survive, another great Hank Jr song.:O::O:
