Can anyone in sub sim land help me ?
My problem is my computer crashed and had to be wiped clean and I lost all my games.
My PC runs windows vista.
My problems started when I tried to install my games again,
when I tried to play SH3 the game screen will not fill the screen and part of the game is off screen. This includes some control buttons.
Any help will be appreciated as I am pulling my hair out trying to solve this problem.

I would point the finger of suspicion @ your screen resolution.
The stock game has only one display setting, which is 1024 x 768.
There are a few resolution fixes discussed on these forums, however the only one which has worked for me in widescreen is the one included in the Magui Mods (thanks Makman94). Have a look here http://www.gamefront.com/files/user/makman94

This is an easy one, happen to me, click on my computer go to your documents and settings, open my documents look for a SH 3 folder this is your saved games and settings you will want to delete this folder and your game should start up .

That may not be the case if his hard drive has been wiped...I was going to suggest a registry clean.
Sounds like a screen resolution problem.

Have to agree with you there Jim. One thing tho @richtea how many HDD's do you have in your rig ?
If your C:\ crashed and burned then your OS reinstall will have killed all your old game reg entries, assuming your games were on a different HDD.
Or was it a games only drive that died ?
Bugger nearly forgot :damn: ........ Welcome aboard !
Best regards.

All I know I had the same problem with SH 3 with a crash and a reinstall after the game loaded, got to the option page and it won't fit the page and could not navigate in the game, lucky for me I retain all that I read in here, this goes back to modding SH4, the game tucks a folder away into my documents which will drive you nuts trying to get the game to play, if you don't know what you are looking for, after delete-ing that folder the game started up fine this also happen while trying to load s-boot mods, if all your other games work then this is your problem, if I'm wrong then you got bigger fish to fry but I would check this first.

Many thank's for all the replies,
please bear with me for I am only an old neanderthal silver surfer
who got into computers when I was made to finish work through ill health.
Both hard drives were wiped clean after the crash.
The old set up never gave me a problem and SH3 is the first game that I have tried to re install.

May be a long shot but was the old rig using XP and now you have changed to Vista?
I think there is a procedure for installing on Vista.
This is way I am stuck with my XP. May be I will upgrade from 32 to 64bit.

Richtea :damn:Sounds like you forgot to update the videocard drivers after the OS reinstall.
Or
The default resolution (1024x768) the game sets up is quite low to today's standards so I can't imagine why part of the game is off-screen. Black bands around it are more likely. You're not trying to play this on a netbook or something with less resolution than that, are you? I think we need to see a screenshot to fully identify the problem. And system details.

Hi mate
Strewth indeed, anywho back on topic. Those are indeed your system specs. Have you done as Pices suggested and installed your vid card drivers? Are you running a laptop by any chance, that looks quite a strange res to me. What you could do is install the resfix and see if that helps matters, tho I don't think that wll centre an off centred screen. What OS is it xp,vista, 7 ? Check if your vid card is nvidia or ati. Then check your settings in nvidia control panel or ati equivilent. Just a thought but you might also check your monitor settings.
Best regards.

Could it possibly be something as simple as adjusting the viewable area with the monitor controls? :hmmm:

I was gonna say, the only time I experience something like that it's because I open a program that is hardcoded to open in the middle of the display (SH3 Commander being one example) and I have my desktop set to "extended" to include a nearby TV as a second display. It makes the window open half in one, and half in the other. Then it's just a matter of dragging the program window over to the middle of my computer monitor.
Of course if the game is running fullscreen it's not like you can drag it anywhere, and I've never had that problem opening a fullscreen program like SH3 even when using the extended desktop. But I would start looking at things like the monitor/display settings in Windows, or whatever advanced options for such things that might come with any GPU software. I know when I was setting up my TV as a second desktop display, I had to go into the GPU software and change the underscan/overscan settings because part of the desktop was "falling off" the edges of the TV screen. I had to make it underscan to shrink it down to fit, and supposedly the TV is the same aspect ratio and resolution as my monitor.
