Hello,

I'm using the hi-res flag textures that are stored in my tex directory (C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Textures\TNorma l\tex)
I've noticed that some of the countries have both a military flag and a merchant flag eg. (German.tga - military) and (German_m.tga - merchant) but Canada only seems to have a merchant flag (Canadian_M.tga).

I checked the SH3 Museum and from what I can tell it looks like the Canadian military ships are using the same flag as the British military ships (see image below):

I would like to use the proper Canadian military flag instead so that I can differentiate between the British military ships and the Canadian military ships.
Here's the flag that I would like to use (see imagebelow):

Is this possible?
Is there a name that I need to save it as in my tex folder to make it work?

Thanks!

It's my understanding that they used the same flag as their RN counterparts, as did most (if not all) Commonwealth navies.

Apparently the Canadian Merchant Navy flew the Red Ensign and the Royal Canadian Navy (warships) the White Ensign, which is exactly as you wish:

I think U48 wants to use the red ensign on Canadian warships instead of the white. Not that I can help him with the "how", sadly. :hmmm:

It looks like most of the Canadian ships used the white ensign so Ubisoft was probably correct in using the same flag for Britain and Canada.
After doing some research I found that most Canadian warships used the white enisgn but I found a few pictures using the red ensign.

Here's the HMCS Algonquin "V" Class Canadian destroyer using the white ensign:

Here's the HMCS Sackville "Flower Class" Canadian corvette using the red ensign:

Have a sharp look at the stern flagpole and you'll see the white ensign flag.

Edit: I don't know, but the red merchant navy flag at the bow may indicate the ships herding role as an escort vessel at the very time of the photo taken.

That isn't the red ensign, and the photo of HMCS Sackville (http://canadasnavalmemorial.ca/) is of how she looks today, not during the war (the tug behind her and the barber pole markings on the funnel are a dead giveaway...they were removed before her 1944 refit).

The flag at the bow is the Blue Ensign of the Royal Canadian Navy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Canadian_Blue_Ensign_1921.svg) which is flown as a Jack for special occasions, such as the Battle of the Atlantic Commemoration that is held here in Halifax each year on the first Sunday in May. On those occasions the Sackville is towed to a location off Point Pleasant Park that is overlooked by a memorial, where wreaths are dropped from the ship and the ashes of veterans of the Battle are dispersed.

In addition, jacks were not worn by Commonwealth warships during World War II.

Good point, but you're answering a post made nine months ago? :-?

Just coming back to SubSim after a long absence. Are there guidelines about answering old threads?

Not at all. I always find it odd when people answer months or years old posts as if they were posted yesterday.

But that's just me. :sunny:
