Hey Folks

I had an idea the other day and wanted to see what everyone thought about it.

Basically I would like to see a Tutorials Forum, either a seperate one or one incorporated into the Silent Hunter 3-4-5 Forum. For people who need/want help modding wise, along the lines of say modeling and texturing for example.

Say if I wanted to model a ship and I didn't know how to go about it, instead of bothering several people with the same question, I could look in the tutorials section to find a thread on several ways to model a ship with linked videos or helpful advice from the most experienced modellers here at Subsim, with advice from them on how they go about modeling a ship.

Of course it just isn't limited to modeling, there's also the technique of skinning an object, taking a template of that and texturing that a certain way, what stages there are to doing that. Also importing and exporting models to game, specific modding tools can also be posted in this forum, there's also the coding side of things (but I do know when it comes to coding there are some nice legal trap hazards for certain things.

Basically I'm putting this out there because its rather difficult to search through certain threads or to use the search function to find what you are looking for, especially wading through certain sections which mostly contain mods and WIP's. And even asking certain people for help can be difficult because they can be too busy to help just one person.

So I think a Tutorials Forum would be a great help for new modders trying to get into it and experienced modders who can post their own tutorials and save everyone a lot of time and hassle.

So Neal if you are reading this please consider it. And everyone else please leave a comment saying what you think about it, and if you like the idea show your support.

Several forums feature a tutorial section for those who want to learn how to do this and that. So I say why would this forum not get its own, after all. That would widen the circle of forum members and knowledge shared in here.

A good idea, in my humble opinion. :ping:

I think it would be a good idea, but I'd limit the posters to a select few so that the forum remains clean and on topic.

@ Mark : What do you mean regarding the limited posters ?
Highly skilled photoshop users, as well as Maya/3DS Max/Modo/Rhinoceros/etc. wizards would need to teach total noobs how to get something done, and these noobs would eventually get better as time passes, in my opinion. But a good user of any software is always a noob in the beginning.

A good idea and one that would certainly get my vote :yep:

Hmm some nice positive responses. 4 posts in one week, not bad at all. :haha:
