I installed the mega mod by tdw and fired up the game again after being away for several months. Well I ran into a task force in bad weather and now I've got about 9 warships above me pinging like I've never seen in vanilla. Don't know if the mod made the ai better or if I just finally ran into a tough spot but how long are they going to keep pinging? I'm. Running silent at 171m and have been for over 3 hours real time. Ping ping pin ping a least 1 or 2 pings per second.....sigh. what would you do? posting from phone sorry for typos.

that would be the IRAI part of MO that improved the AI. If you left the difficulty settings at stock values and your evasion tactics aren't superior you're dead. Plain and simple.

I don't think the mega mod without IRAI changes the AI, but his IRAI mod certainly does.

Do you have IRAI installed? If so, what you are experiencing is normal.
Good Luck!

Are you saying there are valuesthat should have been changed or is it the sheer number of ships that is dooming me?

You can adjust the difficulty settings for each sensor of the escorts and the merchants by editing \data\Scripts\AI\init.aix

I'm perfectly happy with the game being difficult as long as you think my current settings are even close to simulating real life. I just want to make sure I don't have something set to an impossibly unrealistic setting somehow. I'm. Assuming this is normal and any sub in real life would be up a creek without a paddle. Its fun but I don't know how I'm going to save myself. Do you think a sinscere "were sorry" and a giftbasket would work? Maybe they'll run out of charges?

Rick is this normal anytime I run into any warships or just normal when I run into so many? My only saving grace is that I am hearing some collisions up there. Maybe with enough ships loking for me they'll sink themselves.

IMO it doesnt matter if there is 3 or 30 warships up there, if they found you, they found you. Are you being depthcharged? What kind of depth seas are you in? In my experience once the pinging gets that crazy it's pretty much over. The best defence against DDs is not to be detected in the first place. Good Luck.

Unfortunately mo you may be right. I'm stil stuck here. A few od the DDs have either gone home or been sunk due to collisions with the others. I'm rather enjoying this actually but if its this hard to evade 5 or 10 DDs then it looks like the rules have changed. I'm not sure that I can meet mission objectives like this but I'm not sure I care so much about that. I just hope I can get out of this and not have it happen all the time or ill neve sink another ship! Running at 50rpm likethe link said and crosing my fingers. Crap they're pinging me again...

When I am pinned down as you discribe - I try and hide and wait it out.

This mod here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=181540 with mess with the DDs sonar after an depth attack.

So when depth charges explode - hit full speed - after a short while (30sec for me) kill engines and coast on silent.

If you can go more than (im guessing here) 30mins?? - the DDs will give up and move to look elswhere or rejoin the convoy if it has moved a certain distance away. With the later however, beware that one single DD may sit all stop above you - just waiting for you to think it is safe.

So for best results - get the mod above and update IRAI to the newest version. If you plan to change the AI setting in IRAI - do it before you install it.

Well I think I FINALY made it after 7 real time hours of relentless persuit. Everything has been quiet for almost an hour and the DDs are moving off. Unless there is still one sneaky sob waiting above silently I'm home free. Well I must say that was better than stock by far. I'm going to have to rethink my whole approach. No more mindless slipping on silent running while getting a drink from the fridge. As far as the mod trevally I was never sure if that was built in game or not. I had hoped it was. While I don't really want to nerf the ai too much that mod may give me just enough edge to help escape.
