My playlist includes a mix of German military music from that era and before, plus popular jazz/vocal recordings that I know or assume were likely to have been available at the time. Lots of Comedian Harmonists, a popular German vocal group from the 30s, and jazz and big band stuff. Some German/European but also a lot of American stuff provided it's something that predates the US entering the war, at which point I assume it's highly unlikely that new US releases would end up in the private collections of German u-boat commanders.

Also a lot of classical music since in theory some recordings of those works would've been readily available as well, even though most of the recordings I use were actually made decades later.

Basically I try to achieve some level of realism that's acceptable to me based on my own imperfect, arbitrary system of deciding what music might have been available. But I don't sweat it if a "record" that wasn't released until 1940 shows up on my boat in 1939. :O:

jimbuna has made some excellent gramaphone track mods. They're in the downloads section. They're full of period pieces.

That is what I listen to for the most part, but I'm not above putting on some Jimmy Buffett when heading out for the Caribbean. ;)

Now that I don't have. And frankly I'm surprised that anyone else even knows who Bix Beiderbecke was.

May have to do a little googling tonight to see what's out there. Anything in the public domain I hope I hope I hope? I don't even know that I've ever *heard* a Beiderbecke recording. I only know him from his reputation.

There was, but it disappeared a very long time ago.

I have almost all German songs, organized by year where possible and activated with SH3 Commander.

Finally found it

They are all *.mp3 you may want to convert them all into .ogg before placing to gramaphone folder

And yeah:

Combined with Jimbunas: SH3 oggvorbis is a deadly mixture you never get bored in your patrols :haha::yeah:

My pc counted 1.046 songs :arrgh!:

Like most others, it seems, period music and appropriately dramatic classical music.

Also, rather cheesily, WWII movie themes.

As already stated there are eleven gramaphone packs already converted to ogg.vorbis (the most stable format for SH3) available at my GameFront site (link above my sig).

The site below has a reasonable selection:

I'm Davenport, Iowa born and raised. Bix's hometown. We have a big Dixieland jazz fest named for him every summer.

I intend to make the songs I added to my folder available, just a matter of making the time.

Not sure how much is public domain. There are only a few recordings in his name, most are songs from bands featuring him.

One of the coolest is Mississippi Mud with a very young Bing Crosby singing in an... ...um, let's call it an "ethnic" voice. I'd bet that one is available somewhere online.

Bix is still considered one of, if not the finest jazz coronet player 80 years after his death.

Salute !!!

The GWX music and Jimbuna's packs are just "the cat's pajamas !!!" :03:

I have found that I enjoy the music of the '40's. Heck, even the German and French tunes are really good !!!!

Similarly, I became a fan of classical music from my astronomy hobby. SHIII music is wunderbar !!!

Now I find myself listening to the "40's on 4" on XM Radio a lot while commuting to work.

They say fashion (and style) are cyclical, so maybe we'll start a new trend and bring it back... :03:
