When reading up on Dønitz I came across some disturbing information. Seems torpedo reloading times were much longer than in the game. 30-40 minutes are mentioned - in good weather conditions. When in a little sea they had to "go below" due to excessive movements of the boat.

Well thats a matter of the U-Boat class. On VII C a good trained crew needed around 2 minutes to load ONE tube. On the XXI they had hydralic systems and could load ALL six tubes in 10 minutes

Are you sure that wasn't 30-40 minutes for a full reload, as opposed to one torpedo?

Do you have a source for that number? Seems a little low to me.

U 47 hat den zweiten Fächer in Scapa Flow nach 22 Minuten geschossen.Dabei kommt aber die Beseitigung eines Torpedoversagers (Rohrläufer) vom ersten Fächer erschwerend hinzu.
U-47 fired the second "fan"? in Scapa Flow after 22minutes, including a Torpedo failure insinde one tube.

That means an average of 5.5 minutes per tube, not 2 as stated. Still pretty fast.
