View Full Version : Rage And Frustration

It seems that once again I can't play SH3. I don't know how many times this makes, since I lost count long ago. I finally have it set up exactly the way I want it. This time I saw Jim's picture of Rowi's 'NGM' merchant and realized that while I had the GWX version of the Community Units mod installed, that ship and some others had empty folders, with only the .sil picture files. So I installed the complete Community Units mod and started a new patrol. The game crashed. I uninstalled the CU mod and tried again. It still crashed.

I've been going through this same procedure for six years, and have never once had a career progress past 1940. Hardly ever die, just lose the game.

I would dearly love to dump SH3 altogether and just play SH4, which never seems to crash for me, but, as I've complained many times before, SH4 doesn't have the harbors, the bridges, the raiseable flags and antennae, the ship names, the crew names, pretty much all of the little things that make me play SH3. So I end up playing nothing.

And it looks like I'll continue playing nothing for the forseeable future. I'm sure that in a week or two I won't be able to stand it anymore and I'll strip it out and start all over again, but at times like this I have to wonder what I'm even doing here. Sorry to be all depressive, but that's the way I feel.

I feel your pain Steve but not caring about eye candy means that I don't share the issues that drive you up a wall. I deliberately don't compare SH3 with SH4, finding them so different in more than just the theaters and capabilities of the boats and just like each for their strengths while forgiving their flaws. Most of them anyway...

Please resist the temptation to put your boot through your monitor and when SH3 starts to suck, go ride your bike until everything falls into perspective.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the thoughts. I know it's a sickness that a major part of the game for me is just looking at the sights, but there it is.

IPlease resist the temptation to put your boot through your monitor and when SH3 starts to suck, go ride your bike until everything falls into perspective.
Boot and monitor? Never gonna happen. I still like the computer and the web.

Bike? It's pouring rain right now. In fact that's the reason I thought of playing a game, because I can't go outside.

[edit] I'm actually posting this some time later than I wanted to, because the first time I clicked 'Submit Reply' and my internet went down. :wah:

Wow...

Please don't morph from Sailor Steve to Jailer Job!

Rain? I thought Utah was essentially a desert but then recalled that the only time I drove through the state, it snowed... A lot.

Take Care

Steve,
Rainy days suck, unless you are singing in the rain.
With the number of mods you have installed, there´s gonna be conflict. I know the frustration of having to start from scratch and get beyond '41
You know how many times I had to restart Balz due to incompatibility issues.

For the moment I run a simple GWX 3.0 until either Balz gets killed or finishes the war.

As to frustration with Utah weather, I got stuck in Ogden due to fog and being overflown for a week with one pair of skivvies :O:

No morphing needed. That's pretty much who I am.

It is, but this summer has been colder and wetter than usual.

Not possible for me. Without the harbors and stuff I might as well play SH4, as it's much the better basic game.

I'm fine, just grumpy. It's all going to have to wait for a new computer, and that's looking more and more like sometime next year. My next money project is a car.

Not that I find fault with what you're doing, (as I do the exact same thing), but we can't really blame the game for our incessant tinkering. It's like the old saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Hard as it may be to resist the modding impulse, maybe what folks like us need to do is step back and take a breath from time to time. That way we can briefly enjoy our 'stable' concoction before the next round of frustration kicks in.

I'm sure that in a week or two I won't be able to stand it anymore and I'll strip it out and start all over again, but at times like this I have to wonder what I'm even doing here. Sorry to be all depressive, but that's the way I feel.No need to apologize. Better to acknowledge the reality of the feeling than try to rationalize it as somehow inappropriate. Besides, it sounds to me like a fairly normal love/hate relationship where one continues to strive with something - despite the anguish that often accompanies the object of our desire.

If it didn't hurt, it wouldn't be worthwhile. So hang in there, feel what you need to feel and remember this too shall pass. :sunny:

The same happened to me as well when I tried to use the CU mod.
BUT , I am used to it.
I reinstalled the whole game and started all over.
SH3 with GWX and all the other mods around is much better than SH4 or SH5.
So , as Jimbuna would have said : SINK THEM ALL!
