Hi:

I need some advice on how to make the full screen mode go to the physical edges of my wide screen external Hannspree HD monitor.
I tried to change the resolution in the "main" cfg file but it didn't have any effect.

To make a long story short: There is no option to change the screen resolution ingame there is only the choice between full screen or no full screen.
Does anyone know of a workaround?

I would like my resolution to be the native one of my laptop which is
1920 x 1080.

Thanks in Advance

My screen res is also a widescreen 1440x900. AFAIK there is no ultimate solutions for all widescreen monitors..

Options available:

1. Switch to 5:4 standart of your monitor itself when you launch SH3

2. Get use to streched graphics..

I got along with option 2 in time.

Thanks for the reply. I'm ok with stretched graphics but I don't know what you mean by 5:4 standard or how to set it.

Seems like there may be two issues here: one, changing the resolution of the game, and two, running fullscreen vs. windowed (which may be complicated by trying to run a "non-widescreen" game on a widescreen monitor.

You can change the resolution at which the game runs using a mod, the most popular one being the Res Fix:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1092

With this mod you can make the game run at resolutions other than its native one, including widescreen resolutions. However as already noted above the game was not designed for a widescreen display so you will most likely get horizontally "stretched" graphics in the 2D screens. Also be aware that the Res Fix is known to disable some of the keyboard shortcuts (IIRC it's just some of the higher "F" keys like F10, F11) and will remap the screenshot function to the PrintScreen key. Some users also find that using the mod causes the game to freeze or crash when taking screenshots; in my case this only happened to me after I switched from WinXP to Win7.

If you don't like the stretching of the graphics you can still run the game "fullscreen" in the original aspect ratio for which it was designed, provided either your monitor or your graphics controller software lets you turn off automatic rescaling of graphics, which means the GPU won't stretch things out to fill the entire screen on a widescreen monitor. Some monitors have an option for this or you can try looking in your GPU software (although if you are using an ATI/AMD card, the latest versions of Catalyst Control Center disable the "no rescaling" options under certain circumstances). If you can keep the GPU from rescaling the game in fullscreen mode, you will get horizontal black bars on the sides that fill the "extra" space of your widescreen monitor; kind of like the letterboxing you get on the top and the bottom when you watch a widescreen movie on a 4:3 (more or less square) TV screen.

There are also mods designed specifically to adapt the game display to a widescreen ratio, you can do a search for "widescreen" in the Mods Workshop Forum and probably find what's available in that respect.
