View Full Version : A new member has surfaced!
Well, here I am - absolutely brand new.
A German Silent Hunter Player, I started with SH3 a year ago or so and waited for SH5 to get cheap enough ;)
I have been lurking here for quite a while, as my knowledge of SH3's Bernard should demonstrate.
Let's see how all this is going to turn out!
(A new Thread for each new member rather than one big "Welcome"-Thread? Really?)

Let me be the first to say welcome aboard:Kaleun_Salute:
If you need any help on SH3, just got to the SH3 section and ask away.

Willkommen an bord! :salute:
Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome (geez, how big is your welcome commitee?) and then again to frau kaleun in particular for the lolboot-thread, which was one of the things egging me on to register. ;)
And gimme one second to share this with you: Had a successful second Feindfahrt (What's this in English?) today, sinking some sixty thousand tons. Odd thing, though: Encountered a Geleitzug (again: in English? I still lack some naval vocabulary in English) leaving England and chased my Ugly some miles ahead, when I encountered a second Geleitzug approaching England. Ye gods, twenty-four merchants without any escorts! Dang, wished my Ugly could carry more eels. I don't think it will ever be that easy again...
Feindfahrt (What's this in English?)
Mission.
Geleitzug (again: in English?)
Convoy. ;)
Welcome, U-Boot !

I think that's all of them apart from Dowly, you don't want to know what he's doing right now instead of welcoming you! :nope: But then you'll probably know? :D:D
Feindfahrt (What's this in English?)
Geleitzug (again: in English? I still lack some naval vocabulary in English)
Patrol and convoy.

(sorry for bad english im dutch)
Convoy... I SHOULDA'HAE remebered! :damn:
But mission - well, any kind of task one is assigned to is a mission, is there no specific word for that? As far as I understand "Feindfahrt", it refers more to the 'journey' rather than to the 'goal' (as it is also generally the way with compound words in German - the second part of the compound is the more important one regarding the meaning). As soon as you leave port, you're on Feindfahrt. In addition, I also think that not every mission (e.g. transport important data, defend your attacked port) is a Feindfahrt (leave port in order to attack the enemy in the field), the latter one being more specific. But perhaps this is just nitpicking (which may be explained by me studying English and German literature and language at the university). ;)
@ U-Boot : sorry, I'm not German myself. I guess you can do with Herr-Berbunch's translation, "patrol".

Welcome to you as well, silent hunterdude! :salute:
IIRC correctly "feind" means "enemy" so I always loosely translate "feindfahrt" as "combat patrol" since both would imply a mission that involves engaging the enemy.

Before you get this far there is a prior section that I and a few other moderators scrutinise daily for any signs of a spambot...very few get through these days http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif
