I run a lot of mods as well and this only occurs for me if I have the TC set too high. It's generally an indication that the processor is straining trying to keep up with all the accelerated course plotting.

Not sure what TC you're running when this happens, but try turning it down and see if the lag decreases. The other option is to consider running with reduced campaign layers so that the game only has to plot traffic in the area you're actually playing in.

If you're running GWX, (and if not you should be), :03: you can find the RCL mod here:

Hope it helps! :sunny:

I actually use this as a cheat of sorts. If I suddenly get laggy in the nav map, I know to do a quick sonar search.

The problem is either not enough CPU, not enough RAM and/or overheating. If you are running windows7, you should have a minimum of 4 Gb RAM, and should use the 4GB switch. In addition, you can use a RAM maximizer such as Game Booster or AlacrityPC.
Several mods are RAM hogs; you should experiment by running with various mod setups.
Fish in the water's suggestions as to reducing the campaign files might be the only thing you must do but, as far as I know, this only works with GWX3.0.
Turning down the graphics in the options might help also.

I run the game under Linux (using Wine) and I too get lag at times in the Nav map, though I have 4Gb of RAM and 4 cores in this machine. I think it is caused by the game loading data from disk (ship skins, smoke, etc.). This is where lots of RAM helps, because more stuff can be loaded in RAM so the disk won't be accessed as much. Linux, arguably more memory-efficient than Windows, still suffers these slow-downs so I don't know how much can be done about it, apart from low-texture skins, few mods, etc.

That being said, I rarely raise TC above 128x, and then it is almost non-noticable on my set-up. I may see the boat freeze for a second or so, and then everything is smooth again.

And as Osmium Steele mentioned...when you notice the lag, better to do sound check. Something's around! :arrgh!:

Ctrl-F11 will take a screenshot. Be sure to press the numpad period key to remove all dials and controls first. That makes for nicer shots.
Pressing that key again will restore the dials.

fn+num lk first?
Or you could do a check for a keymapping tool and remap the Numpad Period key to something else...

I never thought of it as cheating.

I put it down to smelling smoke from the convoy's stacks......

....or my spidey senses are just tingling. :D
