When allied cargo ships can do this!!!

The ship on the left went from 6 knots forward to 0 knots in less than its own length!

I was hoping to get a great collision pic. No such luck.

Haha :D I remember such a thing as i was in the middle of a convoy and the started a zig zag course. One of the Escorts tried to steam full ahead at me and had to stop because a Freighter was in its way. :O:

But also i had the Crew at the Deck gun and it still was allowed to shoot. As i almost back in the Base Wilhelmshafen he started shooting, and i wondered where he is shooting at. He was shooting at a german Patrol Boat. :x I was hoping "Please don't sink please don't sink!!!!!" But as it had to be "Unt destroyed" :nope::shifty:

They can stop on a dime. You can test this by throwing yourself in front of any neutral or friendly ship; you won't get hit.

An enemy merchant or capital ship, however, will continue on its dogged path. Straight on if they haven't seen you, or serpentine if they have. They won't change course to ram you, but if you are in front of them at the wrong time, they will split you in two.

Important: when you disrupt a convoy, and a lot of the ships are stopped, or dodging, don't bother trying to torpedo them. In the game's AI, they are still traveling their original paths and speeds. All of your solutions will be off by miles until the AI catches up with the havoc you have caused.

This can be seen before you ever play the game. In the Torpedo Tutorial the nearest ship is sitting still. If you aim for the auto lock-on point (i.e. amidships) he will accelerate like a PT boat and avoid the eel. If you aim two meters ahead of his bow he'll sit there and watch it go by. You have to aim for the very bow or use two eels to make it work.

It's one of the bugs people have been trying to solve for six years. Thomsen's Ships mod goes a way toward fixing it, but it has never been truly solved.

I should really change my last name to "Physics". Think of the fun one could have!

Heh. Struggled with that a long time and gave up. I was very relieved later to learn that it was a bug.

Probably the first thing we should warn new players about.
