gonna have a huge rant about how google and youtube is a load of account linking crap

hopefully without any asterisks...

Today I cleared by browser cache and cookies and all of that jazz.

say goodbye to my youtube account.

I've already jumped through googles stupid hoops for my old youtube account, so guess what?
Can't remember google account or my youtube link (as it will not link a legacy account because 'my new account is already linked to a google account')

ORLY? like the one I've just had to create all completely new and shiney???

And guess what?
When I sign in to youtube with the new account, it signs me into a google account, so when I perform a search through my browser homepage, I look and see that it has signed me into a google user account, so now google is happily watching me wherever I go unless I remember to sign out of everything.
And if I sign out of my now signed in account page for my browser default, it signs me out of youtube now too. Just great, fantastic, just what I always wanted.

WAY TO GO MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO USE YOUR SERVICE YOUTUBE, WAY TO GO GOOGLESPY MAKING ME SIGN UP FOR YET ANOTHER EMPTY HOTMAIL/GOOGLE/YOUTUBE ACCOUNT. THANKYOU FOR WASTING MY TIME BY TRYING TO HARVEST MY NAME, TELEPHONE NUMBER, DATE OF BIRTH AND POSTCODE.

does anyone out there know of somewhere I can email to register my displeasure at youtube and google having to go through all of this yet again, and loosing all my previous youtube bookmarks and subscriptions?

:Kaleun_Mad:

I really sick and tired of this rubbish, properly and very angry now, infact, I've had my first smoke in more than 5 months over this nonsense.

jumpy is [I]not a happy bunny right now.
If there were a bloke standing outside in the street who was responsible for making the decision to link all of these accounts together and have it almost impossible to reset/recover usernames and passwords for erroneous accounts that had to be created to continue using a particular website, I'd split his skull to the teeth with my billhook, with a smile on my lips and a jaunty step to my walk.
I really do despise having my time and effort wasted - and this time it has brought the rage down... do you ever hear the booming of drums accompanied by the vague smell of blood and smoke.... where you can hear the roll-call of your ancestors screaming for blood and death?

I'm going to have to go away and calm down for a bit.

The red mist has receded a little.

After over an hours trawling (some whilst writing my last post), I managed to find a page on a forum that tells you how to UNLINK an old youtube account from a defunct google/hotmail address.
Not that I could find this via google help or youtube help... great 'transparency' there. :nope:

Fortunately I remember my original youtube account name and password - the one that stopped working way back when google took over youtube and started all this account linking rubbish.

Really, it should not be that difficult to make it easy for USERS to change their accounts as and when they see fit, particularly when we are dealing with completely arbitrary links to accounts that will never ever be used as anything except a means of accessing another service; which were only created for this purpose because we were railroaded into doing so if we wanted to keep access to a particular site where we had already registered with our information.

I'm prepared to tolerate an amount of openness - I think I've talked about this before now - but not at the level of disruption and inconvenience I have just experienced.
I was told several times that the new address I had chosen was not allowed because of my choice of vocabulary, still...

All that said, I'd still quite happily bury the chap responsible under the slabs in my back yard without loosing any sleep over it. :dead:

Yeah, I know how you feel. When they first told my my YouTube account had to be linked to a Google account I said "No way!" and cancelled YouTube. Unfortunately I like to put stuff up on YouTube, so I finally had to give in. I still hate it Though. Thanks for reminding me.

You just let Google and Youtube force you back to smoking cancer sticks, please ditch them, don't let them get at you, I know exactly how you feel, and it seems that no matter what you do they always get your details, the junk mail keeps building, and how many times I have pressed the "Unsubscribe" links I don't know!!:damn:
Please stay off the smokes, don't throw away 5 months of rehab, I speak for most of the members hear I feel!:yep:

yer, daft I know.
I've had the same packet of drum rolling backy leering at me on the table for ages now. We kind of make eye contact every now and then and pretend like we were looking for something else...

for anyone who wants to know it, here's the UNLINK thing for youtube accounts (you'll need to create a new google account, preferably registered to a suitably insultingly named email address, before you continue with this)
If you created your YouTube account before May 2009 and linked to the wrong Google Account, follow the steps below and you'll learn how to unlink your YouTube account from the Google Account. Please note that you will be asked to link immediately to another Google Account.

Visit this page:
http://www.youtube.com/my_account_unlink
Enter your YouTube username and your old YouTube password from before you linked to your Google Account, then enter the verification code.
Next, click the Unlink My Accounts button.

Could use two browsers. One for Youtube only, the other browser for everything else.

This is why I dont use Youtube/facecrap etc. They know far too much about you and I want my personal information where I know it is, not on some server many miles away accessible by anyone.
