View Full Version : Randomized crew health after save?

It's Jan. 2, 1942 and I'm fighting for life in a badly damaged S-boat near the Phillippines' San Bernardino Strait. A couple Jap dive-bombers nearly finished us off a couple days ago. Three crew dead, everybody else is wounded, eight so badly they're completely ineffective. The repair crews got the flooding under control so at least I can submerge during the day... but this boat is deaf, blind, and barely crawling. Every four hours I shuffle the remaining crew around to keep the least exhausted guys working at more repairs. Surabaya is a long long 2000 nautical miles away.
Or at least that was the situation when I stopped playing last night. I saved my game and went to bed.
Today I loaded up the game to continue trying to save S-37, only to discover my three dead guys are now alive and kicking, one officer who was at 60% health is now dead, and everybody's health values appear randomized. Some are magically healed. Others dropped and are bleeding out on the deck.
What happened? How can I prevent it from happening again?
I'm running RFB 2.0 plus many other mods, but I think RFB is the only one that affects the crew.
I'm afraid I don't know how to fix it but I've had the same thing happen. No lazarus moments yet but I have had all crew members miraculously healed after loading a save.
Lots of wierd little things seem to happen after you save, for instance torps that have already been fired being reported as 'in the water', nothing game breaking just... odd.

appears to be one of the side affects of modding.Perhaps they were KIA but it did not register correctly until it was refreshed aka reloaded.I once took a direct hit from a escort's deck gun forward of conning tower(DD came out of the fog surprised me as I was finishing off a damaged ship in 1942 to save torpedos, no surface radar, visibility was bad) and wondered how the deck gun crew survived and deck gun was not destroyed.I went ahead flank and lost the subchaser in the fog.I saved and went to bed.Couple days later when I reloaded the game, Every man who was on the deck gun was KIA and the deck gun was inoperable.
I'm running TMO and RSRD, had some weird things as of late when I reload games. Not getting credit for ships, torpedos function perfectly in early war, clock is off etc on reload, guess it happens.

Just to be certain, what were the indicators that lead you to believe that the crew members were dead?:hmmm:

Being new to the SH4 experience, I'd always presumed that crew boxes on the ship roster that turned red indicated they were dead. Granted, such involved intuition on my part and I'm a guy and all so we lack such. :arrgh!:

the health was at "0" on the states, their photo was a red, almost pink and had an x or skull and crossbones, put them in a station and they slump over.Does not happen often but deck crew gun crew be KIA from bombs, heavy and light gunfire etc Those in the sub if hit just right by depth charge gun KIA as well but it is rare.Once lost my Ensign on the TDC in conning tower of Gato when a charge blew up close to the tower.Fairly rare but it does happen.

But seriously folks. The wounded guys turn pink on the crew management screen, and their health drops to some value less than 100. The dead guys turn red and their health drops to zero.
I played for a little bit this afternoon, then saved again. Just now I loaded up that save and my whole crew is at 100% health. S-37 must have the best pharmacist's mate ever. Either that... or maybe these guys are actually zombies. I need to watch my back. :o

Must be a sign of the times. I can't avoid a game that doesn't eventually spawn a zombie mod. :shifty:

That's one issue with reloading saves, as far as I know it happens in stock and all mods....crew comes back to life. The damage on your sub should remain.
Sometimes I just put the game on pause, even for a day or so.

Thanks. That's sounding like a reasonable solution. Next time somebody on this tub stubs their toe, I'm not shutting the game down until we dock.
I eventually made it to Surabaya. Didn't sink anything at all this patrol, so no medals... and not even any purple hearts. That kinda ticked me off. Every single member of this crew was wounded. Some of these guys were at 40% health for the better part of a week. Not even counting the resurrected ones. :nope:
