Had tried to shoot these out before and failed and I just put it down to bad luck but now in a moment of boredom I went up to a Nippon Maru and shot at them point blank with both the the deck gun and the AA to no avail, the searchlights remained indestructible:cry:

Sargo class, with 3" deck Gun and single 20mm Flak

Am I to assume then by the silence on this issue that the searchlights are indeed indestructible in SH4?
:hmmm:

Blinded by the light .....

Small targets and the crew protects them with their bodies from behind?

I wouldn't worry about lights. Take out the ship and those lights will disappear.:D:03:

I don't remember stock, but the lights are on to stay in TMO anyway.

It does pose another question, seems I could take out enemy gun crews in stock with my guns, but not with mods probably to do with reworking of damage zones in mods.

I've often wondered if search lights even have a value as a visual, like sun or moon.

So, we can't shoot out the searchlights or the weapons, that gentlemen, needs rectified.
:damn:
Anyone know how?

That would go into the damage model area, which is difficult do change except for pro-modders.

There is this 'real damage' mod. It adresses that problem?

Don't know about that, quite frustrating that you can't shoot out the lights or weapons etc though, have stopped playing SH4 as I don't like not being able to destroy those parts of the boat etc, which is a shame because I like SH4 TMO alot.

Will wait and see if anyone comes up with a fix who knows how to do so, in the meantime I've got back to the Atlantic:arrgh!:

I actually like the spot lights. It lets me know exactly where they are without having to strain my eyes.

I reckon the spotlights a pretty redundant on most ships and shining them in the eyes of submarines seems to have the desired effect of making it harder to target specific pieces anyhoo. Question is, can I requisition a spotlight to put on my sub?

Yea, wouldn't let that lil bug stop me. Fact is no one ever thought it that big of a deal and if you're playing TMO2.2 you'll get your arse kicked fighting on the surface anyway, least of my worry is shooting lights.

This.....

ALTHOUGH......last nite I played for a bit and caught a Zinbu Maru (European Composite?) at night. The sea's were calmish, sky was clear but moonless so I made a surface attack and got in to about 1200yds without being detected. I fired 3 torps (mk10's) and watched the wakes go in. About 20 sec. before impact, the freighter lit up my torp wakes with a searchlight and opened fire on two of them. I thought it would have been fun to try and take it out (since reading this thread)......but, if I had fired on the searchlight, that freighter woulda beat me up good. Which is PROBABLY what would have happened in real life. TMO rocks.

Not sure, certainly after I found out I've not bothered to reload my career. Sometimes small things like this can just eat at you, I guess for me this is just one of those things. I should be able to shoot them out, same with the weapons. What's the point of having the instruction there if they can't take the guns out anyway? A lone merchant, which you took effort (game effort) to get into position to torpedo, you fire 3, may not hit with them all but the merchant is dead in the water and just won't sink, all it needs is a few well placed rounds to the waterline but you can't do so at night in time without risking taking return fire damage because it took a few rounds to adjust your aim with a darn indestructible light shining in your eyes.

So yeah, I'm annoyed, will I stop playing SH4 TMO 2.2, don't know. I'm flawed, takes me a while to get over things:88)

We're all flawed my friend, especially me.http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-ashamed005.gif I certainly have my quirks too, just ask Armistead.http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-music037.gif
