Ok I have bought a new computer - running Windows 7 - tried to install SH 3 (which I have not played in a couple of years).

After installing when I try to open the game - I get a "protection" error telling me the game will only run on Windows XP or 2000.

Can this problem be solved?

I believe there is a win7 thread around here somewhere, should be able to find it in a search.

Are you still useing a version with The protection garbage?
If so? Buy a new DVD of SH3!
It dropped the protection and infact solves many issues with SH3.
Better to spend $7 bucks U.S. then spend days getting ticked off!

Vista and W7 do not like StarForce protection....it would be beneficial for you to purchase a newer version of the game, those that come without StarForce.

It does have the protection garbage on it. Will buy a new CD/DVD.

This thread (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=160118) may be of some use to you, and perhaps this one (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=153900) as well.

Easy enough to remove the starforce protection. See this thread for a how to:

Be aware that even using the Reloaded 'hack' still leaves problems with the SH3 Game.
:nope:
Maybe more then the original SH3 with StarForce.

Better to spend a few bucks more now then waste many days on wasted efforts!
But that's up to you all.
I can't count how many threads I ignore once I see that people are still useing 'Hacks'.

you can get the starforce removal tool from their company website and its totally approved by Ubisoft. I removed it once like 15 installations ago and it never installed again. Only had to remove it once. I recommend that.

But before reading the protection removal posts - I had already spent like $12 and bought a new DVD of the game.

I do appreciate the help.

Since you already tried to install it, it might be a good idea to go to Start/Search and type in Starforce, just to be sure. I only recently found out that it was still on my computer after six years and a new copy of the game. Never had any trouble with it, but still...
