China is on course to build a modern military by 2020, a move that could threaten stability in the Asia-Pacific region, the Pentagon says.
In its annual report on China's defence capability, the Pentagon said China had closed key technological gaps.
A main aim of the military development was to prevent possible US intervention in any conflict with Taiwan, it said.
China said the US report had exaggerated the threat posed by its military, calling it "cock-and-bull".
The report (http://www.defense.gov/pubs/pdfs/2011_CMPR_Final.pdf) comes in a year in which China conducted both the first test-flights of its new J20 stealth aircraft and sea trials of its new aircraft carrier.

Our eyes have been on China since 1949.

Correction since 1900 we got involved during the Boxer Rebellion we got involved over there in the 1920 and 30s(many thought the next World War would start in China)
we where involved there in WWII we had Marines over there in 1946 we had military forces in Taiwan after the ROC lost to the Peoples Republic we fought each other in Korea
we have run ELINT missions against them since 1949.

China has eyes on our debt which they hold and like it or not that gives them alot of power over us.They have taken advantage of our stupid decisions.You know where most of our scrap material goes?China, we are helping them build them selves up.Oh guess where most factory machinery once used here in the US they sent that to China as well in WWII we had industrial capacity in WWIII China will use industrial capacity supplied by its enemy while its enemy has little.

There has to be a boogyman in order to support the Military-Industrial Complex.

You can't get funding unless you have a threat.

The Soviet Union is gone and Russia is not a big threat (besides they are boogyman 1.0)

Iran and North Korea are not viable threats

Al Qaeda is only good for a limited amount of funding for anti-terrorism projects and that well is politically drying up.

How else can the Pentagon garner the funding for big bucks military projects?

hmmmm :hmmm::hmmm::hmmm::hmmm:
