Firstly, the dock icon did not appear....when i got to Kiel at the end of first partrol, i could not enter the sub pen, i tried the far right entrance and got a big grating metal sound, At first I thought it was because the periscope was still up, i lowered it and still could not enter.

I did not know about the Cntr Z to get the icon to appear but it sounds like it may not appear until you are all the way in...

and..

why are there no crew members when cruising ..on the conning tower? i tried to send crew to stations by talking to the officers..but could not get any responses to do that...and the crew management icon would not do anything> is there any way to get anyone to go topside when cruising?

the Manual is not much help :)

any hints about docking?

I am afraid i bent the boat a bit.

First cruise ? If you mean the tutorial mission, you will not see anyone on the bridge yet. I don't know why.

The dock is the one furthest south in Kiel, you must be close to it, but don't have to enter it. I'm at work or I'd show you on a map.

To dock/refit you should get a little orange icon in the top right of the screen - select it and choose 'End Patrol'.

The tutorial is very limited so there's no stuff like ordering crew to conning tower etc. Once you've completed the tutorial and head out for your first proper mission you'll have access to all the boat & crew commands.

Thank you both for the help, I will try again tonight, I may not have see the icon to end the mission if it appeared i was working so hard to steer the boat into the opening :) OK, thank you also about the information that the crew wont appear on the turm during that first mission, i was worried they did not like my work in command and were hiding down below. And the Captain would not speak to me so I thought he was mad at me too. Thanks again. I will try later to succeed.
