When I give the order to dive my boat I can not hear any alarm or horn. Just a guy saying to prepare to dive. I have tried a couple of sound mods but still nothing. I found the file in the sound folder but don't know what to do with it. Is there some way to make sure the game is using this sound? I absolutely love that sound and the game just doesn't feel right without it.
Although if German subs didn't have it then I retract what I said.

WELCOME ABOARD! :sunny:
The Germans used a bell for crash dives, and I wouldn't be surprised if they used it for regular dives too, but I don't know. That said, I'm pretty certain they didn't have a klaxon like the Americans did.

You don't get the ear-splitting dive bell? Consider yourself lucky, I spent ages trying to get rid of it, not bring it back! :O: Seriously though it should be there from stock, it was for me.
Which file in the sound folder do you mean? The diving alarm bell is called 'Submarine Bell.wav' (also a .ogg file in another folder as well as the main wav in the sounds folder), and should play on dive & crash dive from stock.
My guess is if you're using sound mods, you've replaced the standard dive alarm bell with something else. I'm using Stormy's DBSM basemod and have... er.. from memory... spoken dive commands and background noise for a normal dive, and what I'm pretty sure is a soundclip from Das Boot with a klaxon & bells and shouting for crash dive.
What sound mods are you using (or have used)?

Well if the Germans didn't use a "klaxon" (thanks Sailor Steve I did not know that word) then I'm content with a bell. However I'm not hearing that either. Currently I'm using Capthelms Audio mod. I think I'll try a couple more since it's been some time since I played SH5 and there are probably many updates to the sound mods. I'll start with the one you suggested Orpheus. Also the sound file I was referring to was "Submarine_DiveAlarm_INT.wav"

If you want a real thrill try one of the Das Boot Sound Mods.

I think I will. I was just looking at Stormy's DBSM and it requires the German voice pack installed. I prefer realism but i also like to be able to understand what people are saying. Also I'd have to reinstall to get the German voice pack and I just did that trying to figure out this alarm problem.

Not really sure when that sound plays tbh, possible only if you're in a certain part of the boat when diving. 'Submarine Bell.wav' is the one used for most standard diving.

I thought that, but there's a JSGME-ready 'German Voice Pack' mod that will allow use of the German voices without requiring a reinstall, and it works fine with Stormy's DBSM (install German Voices first). German voices is a little strange to start with if you're not a native speaker, but all reports etc will still appear in the report bar in English, so it actually makes little difference in submarine operation and, for me at least makes it a bit more immersive.
