I don't know what this (http://www.pcgamingisnotdead.com/) is all about, but a full page advertisement in today's Wall Street Journal got my attention.
It seems that "PC Gamers" are being exhorted to rise up (or something) on August 26th. Fine with me. I don't play "console games," so if this helps fire up the programmers, I'm all for it.

If you want to save PC gaming, you need to support independent developers and most importantly, publishers, since they very much control the content. That's why I support Interstellar Marines. While FPS might not be my favourite genre, the project does show promise in promoting the community, not only taking part in forming content, but also supporting it financially, thus making it fully independent. All the big publishers now were once small developers of great games, now they just keep spewing remakes or sequels. And what does have a new name, is usually just a terrible amalgam of already existing ideas, which is additionally terribly implemented. Nevertheless, I was never worried about PC gaming being dead. If not for anything else, I don't see Silent Hunter or other sub sims being ported unto Ritalin addled consoles.

though if you ask some people, they would say that SH5 is the last silent hunter
i believe a lot of games with release console version, but some genres just cannot be ported well

HAhahah! A V for Vendetta speech on computer gaming. A tad too lame for such an awesome speech. V For vandetta is too awesome to be put into some wierd computer gaming speech.
But yes, i do believe that consoles are the anti-christ and should burn in hell. Avoid them like the plague. Because a nice gaming rig is usually out of an 11 year old's mommie's Price Range. Hence why theres so few in comparison in PC gaming (unless your talking about the seemingly abundance of rich spoiled little brats that buy a high end gaming rig just for Starcraft)
And now, one of PC gamer's all time favorite exclusives is being PORTED TO THE CONSOLES By the traitorous bastards at Valve. Counter Strike: Global Offensive will be joint platforms. AND there making it so you can play people on consoles. I think i might just let slip a handy little hand grenade into valve's headquarters.

No, it isn't. But then you would have to do some research into the mater instead of just buying overprices crap off the shelf, but then, why would we expect anyone to do this, being a knowledegeable consumer is obviously too much to ask.

I've always wanted to build my own rig for gaming. Right now I run XP Media Edition on a 5, or maybe 6, year-old HP chassis with most of the guts ungraded. As the games I play (SH4, GT Legends/GTR2, IL-2) are as old as the rig itself, it runs fine with the graphics cranked up to max...mostly. Populate too many race cars or fighter squadrons at once and it occasionally shutters. But not enough to warrant hearing my bride complain about "wasting money on stupid toy." Besides, it's fun to look at the catalogues.

And I tell you why: The downfall of PC gaming has been predicted since
around Playstation was released. Apart from the generic shooters, PC still
has all the aces up it's sleeve (simulations, RTS, strategy, mods etc).
And now, one of PC gamer's all time favorite exclusives is being PORTED TO THE CONSOLES By the traitorous bastards at Valve. Counter Strike: Global Offensive will be joint platforms. So what? It's probably going to be just Valve's counterpart to Call of Duty.
1.6 was the last good Counter-Strike, it ain't going to get better with the new
one, I can bet some of my vital organs for that.

Yea, but they're 11, so they dont quite think like a smart consumer. they want the big 1000 dollar computer (that isnt that good in the first place) at best buy to play starcraft II so he can complain and use dirty tactics to gloat over the internet. There certainly are much less annoying little kids in most PC gaming. Because PC gaming is more expensive initially. And because the average parent is, for the most part, clueless on how computers work and what to look for, they tend to have to buy prebuilt expensive computers, which most dont want to do.
So the kid ends up buying a console, which is cheaper. Good. I frankly dont want them screaming in my ear.

More hyperbole. PC gaming is not going anywhere and frankly, I don't see what is so bad about consoles. I don't have one but have played some friend's consoles and really enjoy some of the games on them. I might get one at one point, though that is low on my priority list of "toys" atm, my gaming needs are filled now by my pc and iphone.
Again there will always be a market for complex sims which work really well on PC, but it will always be a niche one. Just like there have been plenty of silly or dud games for PC as well.
