An RAF Red Arrows pilot died when his plane crashed following a display at the Bournemouth Air Festival in Dorset. Flt Lt Jon Egging, 33, from Rutland, was killed when his Hawk T1 aircraft - Red 4 - crashed about 1km south east of Bournemouth Airport at 13:50 BST.
Witnesses report that his Egging's aircraft was much lower that the formation as they finished a display.

A real tragedy for the finest display team I've ever seen in action  RIP to the pilot.

Sadly at that altitude you don't get much time to react should something go wrong, even less time to pull the string on the Martin-Baker

Time is measured in nanoseconds. "You think don't have time to think. You think - and you're dead."

May his family be comforted and may his soul find shelter in the hand of the Creator.

RIP Eggman, a fine pilot.

The cause is yet to be determined...however given where his aircraft landed, I'd wager he stayed with it to the last second to bring it down somewhere away from the populated area of Bournemouth.

A very sad tragedy. The world has lost a fine human being and pilot.

I'm sure in Flt Lt Jon Egging last moments he was trying to get his plane away from any people and population.

RIP Flt Lt Jon Egging :salute:

I'm honestly still wondering why he never ejected shortly before impact though....unless the fault affected the MB seat if that is in fact possible? :hmmm:
