View Full Version : US will review 300,000 immigrant deportation cases
Illegal immigrants to the US who pose no threat to the public are likely to have deportation proceedings against them shelved, the Obama administration has announced.
Reviews will be conducted of about 300,000 illegal immigrants marked for deportation, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said.
Republicans have argued the policy sidesteps Congressional lawmakers.
An estimated 11m illegal immigrants, most of them Hispanic, live in the US.
The new policy means many illegal immigrants who came to the US as children, have graduated from high school and want to enrol in college or the armed forces will be designated low priority for deportation.
'Ignoring the law'
Ms Napolitano said pursuing such cases merely clogged up courts, diverting resources away from deporting those who posed a threat to public safety.
In a letter to a group of senators, Ms Napolitano said undocumented convicted criminals would continue to be expelled from the country.
"From a law enforcement and public safety perspective, [Department of Homeland Security] enforcement resources must continue to be focused on our highest priorities," Ms Napolitano said.
The move has been applauded by advocates for a proposal known as the Dream Act.
The legislation would give illegal immigrants who came to the US as children a chance at legal status if they go to college or take up military service.

why not have special designated deportation courts, you moron? Instead of giving every 11 millon blood sucking illegals a free pass and amnesty. this is where i completely part ways with democrats and obama. they are LEECHES and you want amnesty for them? when are we going to get people with half a brain and some balls to stand up to these manipulative thieves. who cares if they call you a racist, theyre just afraid that your going to punish them according to law because of what they have done.
Now Mrs Gonzales is going to have 4 extra children out of her 5 already so they can have 9 more each and turn every southern state into another part of mexico.

I have to admit, I'd rather see the worst cases go first, and am not opposed to the military-service-to-citizenship option, provided that service is of not less than six years of active duty.
College-to-citizenship... not so much, unless you're paying your own way and coming away with an actual degree, and contributing something to your community at the same time.
I can't fault someone for looking for a better life for themselves, since that's what we all want anyway, but it has to be legitimate, and it has to contribute something to the betterment of everyone.

We deport the illegal criminals only for them to come right back across the border, put the military on our border and shut it down.

Agreed. We need to find a way to turn the situation to our advantage, and those ideas are a lot more productive than the endless cycle of "deport them so they can sneak back in so they can be deported so they...etc etc"

This is the underlying goal.

This is harder then we think. The drug cartels/trade are hard drivers in getting over the borders.

Well, it can be sugar coated all you like as to the reasons, but the fact is if most of those affected by this didn't vote democratic the present administration would not give a rats behind about the matter.

Sure, arrest and deal with nearly a million pot smokers in the States every year.
Lord knows they are a bigger threat to U.S. security and domestic economy things then non-tax paying illegals!
Here's a thought!
How about 'ignoreing' minor possession cases of dope smokers and use the resources to remove the illegals?
Who has commited the greater threat to U.S. society?
If I enter someones Home uninvited? I go to jail!
Border crossers have entered my home uninvited.
Why should anyone of them get a break?
WASHINGTON The Obama administration announced Thursday that it would suspend deportation proceedings against many illegal immigrants who pose no threat to national security or public safety.
The new policy is expected to help thousands of illegal immigrants who came to the United States as young children, graduated from high school and want to go on to college or serve in the armed forces.
White House and immigration officials said they would exercise;prosecutorial discretion; to focus enforcement efforts on cases involving criminals and people who have flagrantly violated immigration laws.
Under the new policy, the secretary of homeland security, Janet Napolitano, can provide relief, on a case-by-case basis, to young people who are in the country illegally but pose no threat to national security or to the public safety.
The decision would, through administrative action, help many intended beneficiaries of legislation that has been stalled in Congress for a decade. The sponsor of the legislation, Senator Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, the No. 2 Senate Democrat, has argued that these young people should not be punished for their parents

You've got to start realistically somewhere.
The Death Penalty got stalled for years because of the ignorant "Hang them High, Shoot Them, Gas Them and the Worst. Kill them the way they killed their Victims. All that got nowhere for years while they lived fairly well in Death Row.
Eventually they got Lethal Injection passed with a hard Battle. :yep:
Now the U.S. Supreme Court is swamped with Appeals. The lower Courts had thoroughly looked over their Appeals so, as not to execute an innocent man.
In most case just, the wording was changed around And no new Evidence uncovered or Surpressed or Hidden by Prosecutors was found. Just a Stall play.
U.S. must take action against the border crossings to curb problems such as this.
