Well, began the war with an S-Boat. No kills at all, heck no contacts on the first patrol and I was afraid I'd be retired in February of 1942! But they took pity on me and sent me back out again.

Still no contacts at all in fulfilling three missions. Then the Admiral told me to do what I wanted or just return to base. Two goose egg cruises? No way! We're goin' to Rabaul and either kick some booty or get kicked ourselves. Yahoo!

On the way into the harbor, sank an auxiliary gunboat for 2465 tons. The sucker took four torpedoes to down but I wasn't leaving till he was safely cashed in.

I entered Rabaul Harbor after evading a couple of minesweepers or other pennyante targets with popguns and laid eyes on a.......small old tanker. Well, darned if it wasn't all of 1,549 tons! It's still a tanker, so I put four fish in it. And it took four Mark 10s to get the thing to the point that I thought it would go down. What wimpy fish. I'll take my chances on the Mark 14's from now on.

To my surprise they promoted me and offered me a new Sargo class. Had my heart set on making some trouble with an S boat but another cruise like the last 2 and I'm toast. I took the Sargo.

Well, I was sent back to the Rabaul area again, and let me tell you with the extra battery stamina and more surface speed that port is just the gift that keeps on giving. I still have three torpedoes forward and all but two of 'em in back but I'm raising a pretty good ruckus so far! Don't think they'll send me to be a ground pounder now!

Ha! 'twas the IJN CHIGUHR, which is suposed to be the ultimate badass.

(Chuckle) That's a pretty good analogy. Rabaul has saved my tonnage skin on more than one occasion. The problem is, you never know what's going to be there once you get past all the defenses. I've found that port to be rather fickle when it comes to the IJN stocking it. Sometimes there's nary an empty dock and other times a single ship, usually of deplorable tonnage. Still, even then, I manage to find just enough to make the whole affair worth 10,000 tons (warships included).http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-confused005.gif

Really have to try an s-boat career at some point, love to frustrate myself for fun. Of on holiday for 2 weeks starting tomorrow, and while I will be travelling for part of it I certainly will be at home with time to spare.

Nice job with the Sargo RR.:yeah:

Yeah, I wimped out on the S-Boat. Was afraid I wouldn't be able to chase down the targets and might come back empty again. Was afraid I'd be relieved of command. That's never happened on any of my careers so I chickened out. Kind of wish I hadn't.

I love the way the S-Boat handles under water. But its slow surface speed, low capacity batteries and super long recharge times do work against it. The worst thing is only 12 torpedoes, and it takes four of those Mark 10s to sink most anything. So you get three (maximum) kills per trip. I hated to but I took the promotion.

Loved the look of the S-Boat though!

I'm a S-boat fan. Lot's of fun. A bit more challenging with the ash cans specifically when the depths you can hide in are just not that deep before being crushed like a tin can. :o

Now that I don't have to worry about being relieved from command for non-production maybe they'll promote me into another S-Boat!:D

Very cool S-Boat skin BTW, RR. Looks great in any weather conditions. I took out two Kuma Class CLs with this baby, albeit with no escorts, but the large Mine Layer I sank had a couple of DDs about.
