I haven't checked in a while now. I'm not looking to spark a fire, just find out the latest status of things...

I heard that UBI supposedly yanked back a bit on the constant connection requirement, but is a connection still required when launching the game every time?

If there still is no "offline" option, then I'm still on the sidelines with SH3 and Steam Games (CA's Total War series).

The game connects to Ubi servers once at initial load to store/access save games, but the 'always on' requirement has been dropped. Most of us disable online save-storage anyway so it's really not all that noticeable at all anymore.

Oh yea? Have you actually tried to disco your internet connection while playing the game? I have and Ubiplay will have a hissy fit about it. There are hoops to jump through to disable the cloud saving and it is not just a matter of disabling it in Ubiplay. I did that and it did not work, there is another step one has to go through which is listed in their FAQ and I can't be arsed to bother doing. They may say they relaxed the DRM but in reality it is still there unless you jump through hoops.

Thanks guys!

That's all I needed to know. I have been waiting for some new mods under development before reinstalling SH3 (SH3 HAHD and Flakmonkey's new work), and thought SH5 might finally be worth a try. But with the connection requirement still in place, its not an option.

I'll check back in another six months.

I was about to ask the same question.
Ordered SH5 today, 10euros :-?:D ...worth the try, I think.
You should, too, in my opinion...it might work fine for you, just as it might for me haha.

I too recently ordered SH5..Looks like all those mods makes it worth purchasing but confusing as to which one's to d/l...Are there any large packs with most popular mods in it to save on figuring out which ones to get..

The problem is that when I am home, I rarely have time to play. When I travel is when I have plenty of time. However, many of the places I travel to do not have easily accessed (or free) Internet. Last month I spent two weeks on a foreign military compound in the Middle East with only one "community computer" available with Internet in the Officer's Club. No wi-fi, nothing. Considering the short work days and lack of things to see and do, I had a lot of time on my hands. Aside from the gym and working on my sunburn by the pool, I spent most of the time watching movies on my computer (hooked up to my TV) and playing total war games (No connection required! Whoo ho!)

:hmmm:

I though i would test this.
I changed my save setting to no online save.
Loaded the game
Pull out my internet connection.
Played the game fine. No issues.

Conection is only required at startup:yep:

To get updates, and keep the game on the cutting edge, DRM would be ok, but other games have online requirements, and still can play offline. What is wrong with Ubisoft???? I will not be so quick to buy anything Ubisoft puts out now.
