Good evening Kaleuns,

I haven't played SH3 now for what must be over 6 months, and i'd like to return to SH5 if possible.

I haven't been around here for some time now. Has SH5 progressed?

I want to get involved, so please could you guys point me in the direction of the must-have mods? also some supplementary mods for eye candy etc would be great too!

Looking forward to rejoining the Flotilla

Sober's mod list is a good place to start: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/album.php?u=223410

I'd say the essentials are Open Horizons II (campaign mod), TDWs New UIs with TDC (so you can use SH3/4/Enhanced 5 UI) & IRAI mods, Dynamic Environment 5.0 for much better waves & sea fx, Capthelms audio mod to improve the stock sounds and KZS's 'Hull Wetness for Uboats' mod.

This is my current list (though Magnum Opus is giving me some odd gfx glitches):

Generic Mod Enabler - v2.6.0.157
[C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS]

Sure, no probs:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=171973

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=182377

Order of install is important with IRAI, New UIs with TDC and the FX_Update mod; incorrect installation can cause problems. Correct order is IRAI, then FX Update, then New UIs with TDC.

Oh, while I'm at it - 'Shadow Improvement ModLR' is a reduction for the shadow mod included in Magnum Opus, so if you don't use MO you don't need it, unless you want slightly better shadows. It can be found in the Magnum Opus install, and is probably available separately too.

The other really important thing is D3D Antilag, found here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=2871

This little file should solve most stuttering framerate issues and is probably the most essential of all for SH5. Instructions are included but it's as simple as dropping the files in your SH5 folder (don't use JSGME); configs can be tweaked in the accompanying text file. Hope that helps!

Hmm... installed the following:

IRAI 1.0
New UI 0.2
Open Horizons II
Dynamic Enviroment 2.1
Dynamic Enviroment realistic version

Now, when I load up Sh5 I don't notice much difference, the campaign goes to 1944. However, when it goes into the harbor, the screen is really really bright, seems a gamma problem with "blocks" of normalish colour. Quite odd.

Load JSGME and under 'tasks' select 'export activated mod list to clipboard' - then reply again and paste it here. Then we can see exactly what you have installed and what might be causing the problem. A full, exact modlist is essential for troubleshooting. :salute:

Well there are two problems I see - IRAI v1.0.0 is currently a test version and unless you are using it for testing you shouldn't be using it for game. Second problem v0.2.0 of my UIs mod??? You need to update to v6.7.0 as there have been MANY changes/improvements/enhancements since v0.2.0

Yup TDW is spot on (of course, they're his mods lol). It's probably v0.2.0 of the UIs mod that's causing your trouble.

Direct links to IRAI & the right TDC mod:

IRAI: http://www.gamefront.com/files/17873484/IRAI-0-0-30-TheDarkWraith.7z/
New UIs with TDC: http://www.gamefront.com/files/20645199/NewUIs_TDC_6_7_0_TheDarkWraith_7z
New UIs with TDC patch 1 (required): http://www.gamefront.com/files/20680681/NewUIs_TDC_v6_7_0_patch_1_zip

You also should probably have the latest FX Update: http://www.gamefront.com/files/20645362/FX_Update_0_0_18_TheDarkWraith_7z
If you find that you get brief but heavy slowdown when engaging merchants - when they fire off their red emergency flare - you can edit that flare out of their abilities (shout here and I'll show you how) to improve performance. Other than that FX Update shouldn't affect fps too much and will make a big difference.

Your install order should then be:

IRAI 0_0_30
FX_Update_0_0_18
New UIs with TDC v6_7_0
New UIs with TDC v6_7_0_Patch_1
Open Horizons II Full
Dynamic Environment v2.1 basemod (realistic version)
Dynamic Environment Atlantic Floor V2.1

And then any of the extra Dynamic Environment add-on mods, which are found in the 'Optional Mods' folder in the Dynamic Environment .zip, in their respective subfolders. You'll see, for example 'Dynamic Environment SH5 Waves V2.1 (DO NOT INSTALL-READ FIRST), and inside that folder will be the individual versions of the wave mods. Pick one and move it to the MODS folder and activate with JSGME as normal.

I'd go with realistic waves and sounds (for definite) and whatever undersea mod is appropriate for your current campaign (you can change it when you move from one AO to the other - probably Temperate & Polar for the early North Sea campaigns, then Mediterranean or Tropical depending on where you decide to go). If you decide to use Shallow Waters, don't forget to get the patch for it as well and install it after Shallow Waters.

Capthelms Audio Mod is another good one and should go before IRAI if you decide to get it: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=163530

If your framerate is taking a hit, use D3D antilag - instructions are in the readme, just drop the two files into your SH5 folder and edit the .cfg to suit your system, though the default set up should make a very noticeable difference. Link here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=2871

You'll also want TDW's .exe patcher (assuming you have the disc version, don't think it works with Steam) to fix the crappy stock hydrophone. Link here: http://www.gamefront.com/files/20162641/TDW_SH5_Patcher_7z

And an explanation on how to use it here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1727559&postcount=6

That's a lot to take in, so take it slow and let us know if you have any more problems :)

Blimey, that screen. Mod list looks ok to me though the other chaps are far more experienced.

Silly question but you are patched to 1.20 right? That's the only thing I can think of that would cause a reaction that bad. :hmmm:

Captain Birdseye
08-17-11, 04:21 PM
Yup. v.1.2.0 I just can't think why it would do this :/

0rpheus
08-17-11, 04:31 PM
Maybe one of the other chaps can chime in to help.. I see the screenshot is of the bunker (took a little while to figure that out lol) but I can't see why you'd be getting that kind of graphic corruption.

Only thing I can suggest is trying to activate each mod one at a time to see where the problem starts, as the list looks fine. If you find one that's causing the problem post it here. Other than that, a full wipe/reinstall & repatch, and then test the mods individually.

I know it's a daft question but you did play through the tutorial at least once before installing any mods? Think that can cause problems too?

It appears to me you are running out of video card memory. What are your system specs and graphics card specs?

Captain Birdseye
08-17-11, 07:04 PM
Correct again TDW, i'm using the nVidia GT 220, not the best card in the world, lowered my settings and everything's fine now. Just out of interest, does the career mod change anything significant?

0rpheus
08-17-11, 08:38 PM
The campaign mod has a lot of changes - much better objectives and extended to 1945. If the Full version is giving you a lot of slowdown, swap it for the Light version with no extra traffic and much better performance. You can add environmental stuff like Mines/Dolphins etc as separate mods to see what works best for you.

Glad you got it sorted! Good hunting :salute:

Thanks 0rpheus, i've struck a nice balance on the full version now and everything is hunky dory. The only thing that concerns me is that in the menu the career "boxes" only go up to 1944.

That and I no longer get the dialog box to skip the tutorial :damn:

Quoted from Open Horizons (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=182964) post:

Important notes.
Those who wanna skip the tutorial when starting a new career, go to Documents\SH5\data\cfg\CareerHistory.cfg and edit the file with Notepad. Change the following line:

HasCompletedTutorial=false
with
HasCompletedTutorial=true
