Im here now...SH5 waters...

I have worn out my Sh3, so it was time for something new. I was probably the last person in the world to adopt SH5, but I was anti...you know. My wife saw SH5 in the bargain bin, and thought a new sub game might be fun for me. So here I am...I will miss SH3, but its been along time since I got any pleasure from it. Plus SH5 cost me 5 bucks...so take that Ubi! Im on my 1st solo patrol, and have had one crash already. Lost about 10 minutes worth of navigating. Anyway, im reading the manual (lol) and watching my boat cruise out of the harbor. Does anyone know how I can get a depth report?

Im not on that page yet I guess.

As to the rest, I'm glad you're enjoying it. It has come a long way since release, and though it still has a way to go, many people like it a lot. Have fun. :sunny:

Thanks to some dedicated modders on here, SH5, I find, is worth playing... Gameplay wise, it's not that different to SH3, how could it be, it's the same subject matter, but it looks oh so nice!

After reading the "extensive manual" (sarcasm), I still cant find a depth sounder.

have you updated to 1.2?

I'm pretty sure after this there is a little keel shaped thing at the bottom of the depth settings left side of screen...

I use the Mighty Fine Crew Mod and the More Crew Orders mod, which then makes it possible to click on the navigator and then select depth under keel...

Also if you download and install TheDarkWraiths UI mod, that has SH3 style crew icons at the bottom of the screen with all the classic SH3 controls, including DUK

i think that once you mod sh5 up to waht u want it become a much better game....but ubisoft trailer did show much moer than the actually put itto the game big let down :(

Awesome...thank you...I will look into that right now. As for the update stuff, when I installed the game and launched...it did a bunch of auto-updating...so I assume

I cant find one if there is. Why would they make a sim without a sounder? Its not like I can look out the window to see how far the bottom is...



Thanks for the linkage, I will install that later today. I also didnt like the torpedo computer...lack there of, so thats the next mod to install.

It was added with patch 1.2 - check top right of main menu to see your version.:up:

I faithfully read every forum on Subsim, except the modern games threads, as that subject doesn't interest me at all. I try to limit my comments concerning SH5 to a minimum, but I pitch in where I can. While I still refuse to buy it, I support the game and the people who play and mod it.

Ran that...it didnt update the version. I had to google 1.2 patch and download it. Ran the GU again afterward, and nothing. I am going to see if there are any other patches I that Ubi has for this. Ubi's page doesnt even have the 1.2...easy to use huh?

Didnt try it before first play, although many updates occurred prior to first play and I would think that patches might be one of of those.

Be careful. Way back when I was in the navy a made a crack about myself being a doofus or however you want to spell it, and the guy standing next to me in the mess line took offense and pointed to his shirt. Stencilled over the left pocket was DUFUS. Boy, was I embarrassed. Today I stick with names like goofball, moron or idiot. I haven't met anybody with those names yet.

I can't really say whether I would like it or not, but I probably will, if they ever get rid of...you know. Sure, I want different things that it doesn't offer yet, but I'm sure it will sooner or later, and the work being done currently can't be dismissed. So, it's not really nobility so much as honesty. I'm looking forward to it, actually. On the other hand it's going to cost me hundreds of dollars, since I'll need a new computer to even run it. On the other other hand a new computer will help immensely with the older games as well.

Actually it's quite possible... the only stock I've played was the tutorial before installing MO & TDW's UI with TDC. I just assumed it was there in stock (did they really not put depth under keel in stock?!), and I can't remember if I saw it in my first run of the tutorial. :hmmm:

When I installed from my retail disc and input my key etc it updated to 1.20 automatically like [SJ]nailz so I can't help on that front.

That's odd.. I suppose it might help for you to post your system specs, but I can't see why the auto updater wouldn't run. Still, you said you're at 1.20 now right, so you should be good to go :)
