Forgive me if I've missed something very obvious but I'm just completing the first tutorial mission, October 1939, and I'm on my way to Kiel after sinking three ships. Time compression has just now become available but will not go any higher than 32. I'm currently in the middle of the Baltic with no other traffic around. Since I've read in various threads of people using time compression up to, I believe, 2048 I was wondering how I might raise my TC availability to a number a bit higher than 32? I am using SH 5.
My thanks in advance.
Trevally.

32 is the max TC you can get when you are in the 3d game.
Open your navigation station and TC will go higher:up:

You can actually change it higher than 32 (in 3d mode as well) if you change the values manually in the data/cfg configuration files, I think.

Gentleman, please forgive my ignorance but I am absolutely brand new to SH 5 and thus need a bit of baby sitting.
Trevally - How do I tell if I'm "in the 3D game" and how does one "open your navigation station" and once open what do I do then?
Tube_One_Los - I found [TIME COMPRESSION] in the main.cfg but after looking at all the various number entry lines I haven't the least idea what alterations I should make in order to increase Time Compression.
Sober - Although I have never touched the "travel button" before as soon as I get home tonight I shall "unclick" it and see if that makes a difference.
As you've probably guessed by now I'm not exactly a rocket scientist when it comes to computers and certainly not in the case of SH 5 but know that all of your help and patience is most appreciated!

What Trevally means is that TC32 is the highest you can go while the in-game camera is still active - if you're looking through your captains eyes, or using the external views etc. To increase your TC over that you need to be in map mode, which should be the M key. Whilst in-game, F1 will bring up the default keymap.
Spend a week or so getting used to (and likely annoyed by, if you've played SH3/4) the stock game before you edit your main.cfg; plenty of information at Subsim on how to do stuff like that. Finish the tutorial (sober's link shows how) and just sail the boat, sink a few ships, sod the objectives etc. See what you like and what you don't - want new UI? Better Environment? Better campaign? etc and then go hunt the mods section and customize SH5 to your needs. :salute:

0rpheus, thanks, that's exactly what I needed, precise and detailed!
I've never played any version of Silent Hunter or any other simulation game except FSX (Flight Simulator X).
So far, though a bit confounding at times, I really enjoy SH 5 and once I get comfortable with it it can only get better.
Thanks to all here on SUBSIM FORUMS for offering me a hand when it's needed.
