View Full Version : Grandma dies at 101 :(
This a sad day. My grandma died this morning at an age of 101 (Her sister is 106)
She was really the head of the family and a great storyteller.
Just think about the changes she has seen in her lifetime!
Her family can be traced back 1000 years and shows ties to some of the greatest people in Denmark, incl Hans Christian Andersen (I can find letters in the family book).
Her family had a plantagen in the Danish West Indies and some day im going to visit the remaining ruins. Theres even a bay there called Becks Bay as far as I know. Thats why I take pride in my family name - Beck
I will really miss her - she was one proud and great lady!

Sorry for your loss.People such as her are a treasure as they can give first hand accounts of the changes seen in our world, esp those who have lived in the last 100 years. My great grandmother is 92(mothers side) and my grandfather(fathers side) will be 93 on August 10th.I have always been thankful to have them around.Unfortunately life is a journey that does have an end but take solace in the fact she lived a long, happy life, may she rest in peace.

The ancient Egyptians believed that if you speak the name of the dead, they live again.
I hope you will speak often of the good that your Grandmother gave to you and others.
Ray Orbison had a good rendition of "Remember the good times"
"Yes, I suppose at times I think about her
She was once so much apart of me
Heaven knows I've learned to
live without her
And hell, it was, at times
It was a painful memory
But for all it matters now, If it does
For all that tried to be, but never was
For all the times I've tried,
I wouldn't change it if I could
For all she meant to me, I'll remember the good
I'll forget the bad
All the good times we've had
won't make me quite so sad
When I'm remembering
And for all the times I've tried,
I wouldn't change it if I could
For all she meant to me, I'll remember the good
For all she meant to me, I'll remember the good."
I hope this helps a little.

That's some strong genes, my Grandma died about 8 years ago at 103. I'm sure you know the amazing stories they can tell. Someone that lives that long really saw the history.
May you be at peace.

My sons great grandmother on his mothers side is 103 this year in Oct and still lives on her own in Auckland New Zealand (granddad died 15-16yrs ago) she wont let family take care of her she doesn't need it really, only thing wrong with her is she is partly deaf now. Shes a tough old Jewish woman that gave up smoking in her late 60's.

1910-2011. That's an impressive span. A century with a one year victory lap.
My condolences, McBeck.
Thanks for all the kind words. She will most likely be burried Thursday.

I did not see this earlier.
My condolences, McBeck.
Sad news indeed Jonathan. My condolences to you and your family.
Remember her as she lived.:salute:
Heres some of my fondest memories
When I was app 8 years old and stayed at my grandma's house for night before we travelled by train to my parrents cottage in sweden. It was a great trip and we played cards all the way.
The last I visited where she was in fair health was a really good visit. She was in good spirit and was happy. Normally she could only last ½ hr before she got really tired, but this time she lasted for 2 full hrs.
Her husband died 2 days before I was born, so I never got to meet him, but for some reason he has left a mark on my life.
I look a lot like him.
I have the same height and build.
I started my career in IT in the same rooms as he had his business (pure chance).
So I guess my grandma felt a lot of things looking at me and I felt a connection to her and him.
I had a special place in her heart and really miss her...
Its really sad - its not untill now I realize what a big part she played in my life.

my condolences, McBeck
Sounds like she will always have a place in your heart. My grandpa was born in the same year, he died 30 years ago but I often still think of this great man.
May your grandma rest in peace!
