The mayor of Vilnius, in Lithuania, has an aggressive way of cracking down on illegal parking… and has released a video demonstrating his non-nonsense approach.
Rather than simply issuing a ticket, the smiling mayor runs it over with a soviet-era armoured personnel carrier.

Can imagine Boris Johnson liking the sound of this as a means to clear congestion in London:haha:.

I like it.

If you're going to park illegally because you can afford the ticket, maybe buying a new car instead will change your mind about breaking the law.

Maybe in Lithuania. Here the government doesn't have the right to wantonly destroy property, illegal parking or no.

Of course not! In our democracies the goverment does not wantonly destroy property. How else could it tax to death and then let the banks forclose on it!

The coward and cheat?

Apparently the car didn't belong to a real driver, and was instead bought specifically for the publicity stunt.

The coward and cheat?

I know it was faked. You don't really take me for that stupid, do you? But I appreciate the gesture nevertheless.

I didn't know it until just a minute ago, when I finally read the article. Sorry if I overreacted, but we had a governor here a few years back who did something similar. I really hate that guy.

Wouldn't that APC be exempt from the congestion charge?

Ah, I forgot to say: I read this first from a Finnish newspaper, where they clearly stated in the article that the video was a fake. So obviously I thought everyone else took it for granted too and just came to comment the video. Hey, it was 7am in here, you can't expect me to be rational in that time of the morning :).

No harm done :sunny:.

He wants to be careful...one of his political opponents might just park a car illegally and strap an anti tank mine to the underside of the vehicles roof :03:

D'accord. Here, we slap a boot on the tire until the wrecker gets there to haul it away; complete with the implicit waiver that any damage done to the vehicle in the impound lot is not the responsibility of the agency impounding the vehicle.

Its a APC, not a tank...

I like his thinking though, now only if i could use this to clear traffic on the motorway :hmmm:
