God how I hate these pesky annoying things, they are impossible to torpedo and very hard to hit with deck\flak guns before they damage your boat.:stare:
Anyone else find these annoying.

Anyone else find these annoying. True, it is best to dive to avoid a hole in the hull, :yep:

Correct.
Those little annoying boats can be very dangerous if you engage them on the surface but they are harmless if you are submerged. They lack any ASW equipment or weapons.
Just dive and let them pass. They are not worth a torpedo either.

I think you'll find they have a far greater tendency to obliterate your deck and bridge crews first....in testing we (GWX) found you could literally run out of crew replacements from the automatic cannons before the boat took serious damage levels.

I'm surprised that they didn't add torpedo attacks to the AI of the pts, that would be really annoying and more reallistic.

It has been done way back IIRC but the eels travelled at a minimum speed of 125 knots which was a tad unrealistic :DL

Well it's beaten everybody up till now...one person did manage to have invisible shells replace eels mind you (Sergbuto or Rubini).

Kind of like pesky mosquitoes buzzing along on the surface...

Too small to worry about and not big enough to be worth the effort. My basic rule of thumb is circumvent or dive until they buzz off. :DL

And the funniest part is that the Royal Navy didn't have on single PT boat manufactured by ELCO, and the ones they did have (Vosper) didn't look anything like the ELCOs.

But even then they're not something you should mess with. Small, fast, hard to hit and pretty deadly in return. Also, u-boats and MTBs didn't usually operate in the same waters. You shouldn't see any unless in coastal waters or the Channel.

Conversely the same can't be said of German E-boats and British submarines.....my late father used to often remind me of the times he saw them trading punches off the Dogger Bank as the Brtitish Submarines were returning to their eastern shoreline bases.

I have sunk them, but they will render your boat useless for further action. They are not worth engaging.

Attacking these is suicidal in my books. On the other hand, torpedoing them is a sight to see...

Perhaps we should add depth charge racks in place of the after tubes...?

The MTB Flotillas of the Inshore Squadrons indeed were tough nuts to crack, they and the E boats dueled nightly and a lot of lead and blood was shed....also tru the British MTBs were toally different and a million times superior ot the flimsy Elco Throw away boats.... the Vospers were tough and well designed but not any way the equal of the superb E Boats...those Schnellboats were amazing and tne envy of other navies. I still hope to have a go with them in one of the SH series, i think there is a S boat mod about but i havent had time to try it yet.

Interesting comment considering they were both made of the same plywood-on-mahogany construction. Do you have any facts to back up that insult?

I didnt mean it as an insult. I actually have seen several of the original MTBs in the UK, i was considering buying one back in the 1970s and had a chance to see them in and out and talk to former crew and officers who served on them, hence my thoughts about them and their quality. The american PTs were not very strong and suffered a lot in a heavy sea, whereas the british MTBs were build with a stronger set of strakes and interior support that stood them in good stead in the close combat that developed in the inshore areas.. but as you say their construction was similar..just my impression from talking to men who served in both, i would have rather been aboard a RN MTB. But i meant no insult for men served in both with honour and loyalty.

The S-38 mod is in the download section, I like but would like to get the quad 20 on it

I ran across a British MTB somewhere just outside... Gibraltar I think. Middle of the night, slipping quietly through the straits and this thing pops out of the darkness ( I don't trust the AI to stand watch through the straights... I do it in the dark, and I stay on watch myself). I figured 'what the hey, I'm nearly through). Popped over to the deck gun. First shell must have hit something nasty because something popped and the whole boat caught fire. They started pissing back but it was decent range at night (about 800 meters or so), and I'd already started diving the boat.

I didn't stick around to see what happened but it must have sunk because I got credit for the kill. I did have a damage mod that causes fire to actually be a problem for vessels though, and it was a little boat :P

Managed to sink one of the little bleeders without any damage to U-36 or any of her crew
