A man whose son died after playing video games for long periods is campaigning for greater awareness of the risk posed by their excessive use.
Chris Staniforth, 20, who would play his console for up to 12 hours, died in May from deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

12 hours is nothing, I heard players play up to 18-20 hours a day!

Oh GREAT!!
We need to have a Law to protect IDIOTS from themselves now I suspect?
:nope:
This is Natures way of saying 'The strong survive'.
Sorry this guy bought the farm, but death is not a standard variable.
When it's your time?

Sad news indeed, i need to be careful, currently grinding for my KV and Tiger in WoT!
Dam addictive game.
In all seriousness though, it's a shame that people are not more concerned and educated about the dangers of long gaming sessions. In fact, long sessions in a chair, full stop.

This.
Long time in ANY position can lead to DVT, especially if that position involves an extended period of joint bending - knees & elbows - whether you're playing a game, working at a desk, or even on a long-duration flight or long drive in the car. Good rule of thumb is to move your body for a minimum of 5 minutes every hour; no saving up to move for thirty minutes after that six hour flight, either. Get up, walk to the head, walk back to your seat. If you see the drinks cart between you and the head, stand up to wait for it, rather than remaining seated. If you're driving, stop for five minutes every 90 or so (as long as you can do so safely) and walk around for a bit. Guys, don't sit on your wallets - these can pinch blood vessels if they're thick enough.

I try to avoid sitting for more than one hour in front of a PC with no break.Mainly because I want to get up and move around for a bit and also
I want to give my eyes a break as well.
I might go a bit longer while driving on a road trip but rarely exceed more than 2 hours without stopping and taking a break for a bit and getting out.
I agree on the wallet thing as well and to be honest the wallet gets uncomfortable after a while in your back pocket.

I've had a few long gaming sessions over the years but even then I'd always take brakes. I'd get a bit of food and drink say, take a walk. To be frank I don't have the time to game as much these days but you can still find me buring the midnight oil on the week end sometimes with Hearts if Iron II. I'll never stop playing that hehe. Still I'll keep this in mind as I do work at a desk for long stretches of time so thank you for making me aware if this.
I wonder what sort if chair he was sitting on, I think I might look in to a new set for me actualy.
