PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer plans to move the state's presidential primary election up a month to Jan. 31, in hopes of drawing Republican candidates and national attention to the state.

Brewer says in a statement that Arizona is at the forefront of advancing solutions to national issues such as illegal immigration and border security, Medicaid spending and the fiscal crisis. She says it only makes sense that the state be positioned to have its voice heard when it comes to the presidential nomination process.

Brewer says an earlier election would ensure that Arizonans are major players in the 2012 Republican campaign.

She can make the move by proclamation. But it could cost the state some of its delegates to the GOP national convention in Tampa, Fla.

Yeah, the whole 'Super Tuesday' thing has really screwed over a lot of state primaries.

Perhaps we should have one day for all the primaries. That way all are equal.
