Where do I start?

I'm an old 688 guy and I just started playing SH3...I imagine that the stock software isn't what I want to be playing, what would be a good place to start with the patches, mods, etc...I got the game off of Steam. Also is there an online community? I played 688 with the Seawolves back in the day.

Howdy!

There's a huge number of mods available so you might want to play stock for a bit to see what elements of the game you would like to add, remove, or change. Or you can browse the Downloads section here to see a decent selection of stuff, or check out the Mods Workshop Forum "right next door" here at Subsim to get an idea of what's popular or in progress at the moment.

There are also some "supermods" which you can use, they will typically alter your game (and gameplay) to a far greater extent than just adding mods here and there for selected elements. The ones I know of are: GWX, LSH, NYGM, and WAC (not sure if UBOOT HAHD has been released yet). There are threads for most or all of the popular supermods stickied at the top of the Mods Workshop Forum. :yep:

There should be a subforum here for online multiplayer stuff, but I haven't done any of that so maybe someone else can point you in the right direction.
