I've looked over the deck plans but I can't seem to find it, where the heck is the helm station on a Type VII U Boat? :hmmm:

There is no such thing as stupid question. Only stupid answer.

The helm station is right under the conning tower. it's the command control room too.

The helm station is located to the right of the watertight hatch leading into the radio room, as illustrated in this screenshot:

In Silent Hunter 3 it doesn't seem to be occupied by anyone (hidden behind the watch officer most of the time) but there is clearly someone at the post in Das Boot! :D

Check out some SH5 screenshots. There is a single bench that the planesmen sit on rather than the seats in SH3. It makes a right angle at the front of the Control Room, and the helmsman sits right there. I understand there is one in the conning tower as well, and there is definitely one on the bridge. It's that box that says 'BBC' on it and the rudder controls are those two levers on top of it.

Ah so they use levers like a Russian boat and not a wheel like an American boat or like the U-boat's planesmans. :hmmm:

Thanks guys! :salute:

Iirc, the BBC box, with the levers, in the bridge was generally used for tight maneuvering situations in port.

The actual helmsman is in the control room. Of the two fellows seated, he is the one on the right, and yes, they use BIG wheels. Not much hydraulic assist.

Hmmm, did the helmsman control the bow planes as well? That I do not know. I know they were electrically operated, but from which station?

The forward guy is the bow planes, the after guy is the stern planes. SH5 has it right.

No, because he doesn't sit there.

Here you can see the helmsman and both planesmen:

And here you can clearly see the BBC control box at the front of the control room:
