So i'm going to buy Silent Hunter 5...

Why hello there Subsim community! So I've been wanting to purchase Silent Hunter 5 for awhile now, and I have heard over and over again that the game is way better when you install mods for it. So I want to know right from the people who made them, what mods are best for a no0b to the Silent Hunter series? I'm hoping for the mods to be relatively easy for me to install, and make the game easier for me to jump into it and not get killed by a task force of destroyers on my first patrol.

Please note that this will make me sound like a pansy, but I'm hoping for mods that don't make the game more difficult. I played Silent Hunter 3 back in '09, and the only mod had installed was The Gray Wolfs mod, which made it nearly impossible for me to even get near a convoy.

So any help you can give would be greatly appreciated, and I hope to soon be roaming the waters along your side! :D

I would recommend going over to the Mods subsection of the SH5 forum and looking at most of TheDarkWraiths work. Also, check out sobers mod list (found in his sig), it's a pretty solid list.

If you want to go for the basic package, just download Magnum Opus (the SH5 supermod) and run that. Once you get comfortable, you can download IRAI which improves the games AI drastically.

I'd like to recomend that you buy the DVD version and not purchase it from Steam. Some people have problems with the Steam version and the .exe patch made by TDW is only for the boxed version.

I actually got it from Buy.com for only $10 :DL so i dont need to worry about that.

No I mean they're not dumb as a stump anymore ( Running under 40m in stock and they can't detect or attack you.. )

He's added scripts which enable more realistic acquire, intercept and attack methods, convoy escort methods, etc. It's not so much like TMO in SH4 where they have super sensors, nor are they elite escorts in 1939, but it provides a fair challenge and makes you use your head.

I know that this is THE mod to install, but how [without getting technical] does it change the game so drastically and make it 90% better?
