Bought anthology because I happen to be looking for it and found it by accident in local game retailer. The MP is still well alive. Just that I'm not aware of voice chat function.
I know Men of War is probably a much better game but it would probably feel like a lot of work too judging from my experience with faces of war.
Somehow I found myself going back to enjoy arcadey games than I thought I would.

No, deleted it just last week as last time I ran it was over Christmas. Have you tried Supreme Commander its a better game imo, not good if you want a quick game though.

Haven't tried Supreme commander but it seems to be a sci-fi rts while I was looking for a WWII rts(For scifi I'd pick SC2 probably). The problem is always whether a copy is available here(don't think SC is available). I only shop online only once every few months. Been having a few fun online with COH:Anthology. I'll probably pick Starcraft 2 next month as a way to go nostalgic.
Funny as I thought I'd get over playing 'simple' rts. Now they seem to be coming back to me sort of. I'm finding that playing simple game is fun after a long time being pretty much a realism worshiper.

Just found out abusive language is probably pretty common in this game online.
Some 15 year old probably.

Common in all online games, particularly mmo's & shooters.
Supreme Commander 1 is a really good RTS, unfortunately they over simplified it in SupCom2.

In any game these days you're going to find the odd twit that runs their mouth off for no reason. Trying to reason with them or using logic to debate thing only further aggravates the situation.
Reason why most of my time spent in online games is a quiet one.

I don't find Supreme commander 1 graphics to be appealing and it is so with the theme as well.
CoH has a bit of history flavor in it. I mean at least the units name and models are familiar :). And the sounds of those weapons firing are just great.:O:

I know what you mean with those kind of people sigh :nope:
Don't play it much these days, the I don't play Linear Storyline Campaigns, the Single player skirmish gets repetitive and I'm not to big a fan of multiplayer.
Add in the fact that I own Men of War: Assault Squad which has a much funner MP and even its single player is funner... I really don't see the point in it anymore.
Still have it installed though, just out of date.

Use to play it abit, not anymore, prefer men of war. didn't like the arcade aspect. (like having my king tiger killed by a sherman, or the rushes, as that's all i ever really saw.

Yeah I thought so too that everyone would prefer men of war.
I missed the copies while they were stocked.
My experience with faces of war which I didn't quite like prevented me from getting men of war. Sometimes games like faces of war or men of war could feel more like chores of micro managing to me even when they tried not to make it so.
Plus the ridiculously short engagement range for the tanks as it could only shoot at other tanks within viewing perspective of the screen.
Theatre of War appeals to me more when it comes to engagement distance. However I understand Men of war is the more polished(higher production value) of the two.
With Company of Heroes I'm not lead into believing that it is trying to be realistic. It is trying to be easy, fast paced and fun with less micro managing while offering plenty of units and destructible environment to offer a sense of the brutality of war in a lighter fun way. Well at least a King Tiger in CoH is not going to be killed by a lone Sherman shooting at its front. :O:. I played the Tiger ace tales of valor campaign last night and it felt like a heavy tank. I basically destroyed every British armor that I met in Villers Bocage with ease while they hardly made a dent on my HP.
But if only the SUN paper Men of War give away wasn't giving me 404 error. LOL.

Indeed, my jaw dropped when I played the SupCom 2 demo, but not in a good way...
I have to say, dismissing SupCom on the basis of theme and look... you're doing it wrong. Games are about gameplay.
CoH... Still have it installed but haven't touched it in ages. One of the things that bothered me most were the "magic missile" projectiles: you could see shells changing heading to make sure they hit their target. That and the absence of some basic logic, like armoured cars being shot to pieces by a rifle squad.

Ah I care mostly about gameplay as well but I usually do not touch a game unless its theme or background got me interested. By the sound of it it's an incredibly fun game. I might be missing a very good game here but I think I'm willing to accept that. I've watched the gameplay video and can't find myself liking the theme and 3D models.

Yeah CoH is not a sophisticated game but a tank won't get destroyed by small arms fire no matter what. Otherwise I wouldn't play it one bit. However light armored scout vehicles may take damage from small arms fire especially over time in CoH. Well to me it's a game which is better not to be taken too seriously. It's all for the silly-stupid-simple fun. A game which you play just for the sake of playing instead of actually putting a serious effort to win. It's a game you fire after a day's hardwork just to have a giggle or smile.

I'm pretty sure it will actually, given enough time. But fair enough.
Just installed CoH again. I like it a lot, even it's a bit arcadish. I prefer MoW as well but we haven't play it for a while and I find it extremely annoying to play it online with random people as I suck at that game. At least in CoH I'm somewhat good.

Maybe the light tank will but infantry have MG that would probably penetrate them. But if you take say a medium or heavy tank small arms can't kill you even if you are left with minimum HP. I remember this even way then and was one of my reason to love CoH. It was arcadish yet still trying to make some sense. But of course many infantry would be carrying AT rocket(those panzerfaust or recoilless gun)

Hi Crecy been a while :DL. The campaigns in CoH are damn good. I like playing them for their story progression.
I've been losing most of the time in CoH multiplayer.
Kids have more click a minute. I'm just playing to see the pyrotechnics but I'm having fun. Little infantrymen with little tanks sweeping across the field riddled with bullet richocets and shell pillars and the sound of machine gun rat tatting and the occasional kaboom with bodies hurtling into the air :haha:. It's a fun way to relax. It a ridiculous game when it comes to realism(blue stripes on German tank and red on Allies?) but that's the reason I'm enjoying it.
You know I believe one of the signs you are getting old is that you're enjoying a 5 year old PC game which you think still look pretty. The teenagers would probably dismiss CoH level of visual beauty as just plain standard.

Supreme commanders graphics are suppose to be like that to make way for the massive battles. No other RTS game I know of has battles like Supreme Commander 1. Truly awesome to watch unfold in front of you. A typical game will take you all day to finish, whats even better is you can have the map showing on a 2nd monitor if you have that setup, really helps for the battles. SC is not C&C gameplay.

Ah I see judging from the opinions here I gather it must be a terrific game which I missed :hmmm:

Played a CoH online match for 2 hours. I played casually. Enjoyed every moment of it. Great value for a little more than 30 bucks game considering you get quite a variety of campaigns with Anthology and well alive MP community available 24/7. I play it to unwind instead jumping on it with a competitive mind. The kaboom and rat-tatting are really awesome. Love the theme. I lost the previous disc of my first CoH having lent it to a friend. Been wanting to get back into the game and only found anthology by chance couple days ago stocked at local retailer.
What I like from this relatively old popular game is that the tactical aspect is pretty much effective not merely in the units but also with the maps. The maps are beautiful and offer wide variety of tactical strategy. The fact that each side could be locked down in 2 hour long online game is something that I doubt can happen in Starcraft 2. Starcraft 2 judging from the videos just doesn't seem to have maps that are as tactical as CoH and its online matches are usually finished mostly under 30 minutes. Furthermore since SC 2 is a sci-fi related its maps often give you a sense of weirdness in them that don't actually make much sense(felt they are made for gameplay first and foremost than anything else like immersion). The maps in SC2 seem to be more functional than artistic while the maps in CoH are both functional(tactical) and artistic(immersive).

Don't get me wrong from my earlier post though, its a good game.
Remember when i had a 3 hr game with the AI. A 3 hour struggle for a city. that didn't exist after the game!
Casualty for each player (ma and AI where all 1,000-3,000.

Not at all. Besides everyone has their own taste and their own unique experience when it comes to gaming as on life. I don't get upset at all never did even at the slightest.
Tell me about it. I spent a long time barb wiring bridges leading to Carentan and mining them. I even made the barb wires to create a maze so that my MG team would have an eternity shooting at the AI infantry. I protected those barb wires with lines of mines preceding it and then layer by layer in the maze so that when one barb wire line is breached by vehicle the vehicles would get destroyed without it destroying the next line of barb wire.
And then it turned out the counter attack was for the next mission in the campaign so they all were for nothing. :damn:

You're like me. I play CoH to blow off steam and to relax and so my stats are so terrible much of it on purpose but it seems people do not want to co-op with you if you have a bad stats :DL.
I enjoy online CoH very much even if I lose in the end. Once we played a 2.5 hour battle playing the US side against multiple German AIs.
For 2 hours we held the Germans with lots and lots and lots of arty and even successful pushing them back. What a sight and feeling. It was very very fun though we still lost in the end.
My CoH nick is MightyHeart.
My steam is LifePilgrim though I'm rarely online with steam nowadays.
Biggest chunck of my gaming/leisure time is now spent on WoT or if not watching downloaded HD or black&white youtube full documentary on TV.
