I need a screenshot program which has this feature: when hitting the hotbutton to capture the screen, it just saves the image in the background to the location previously defined in the options. This it should do reliably, but without giving any sign that it did, or any interruptions.

It should NOT:

- freeze the application that was running in the foreground when the shot was taken,
- not call up a message box saying that it has taken a shot
- should not open and bring to the foreground an editor window where the image is being shown
- ask wether or not I want to keep and save the shot taken.

I tried half a dozen programs today, but not a single one of them did work without an interruption of the above kind.

Any tips for a software qualifying by the above demands?

Would you care to tell us what you've already tried so we (I say we, not me, but some others) can be more helpful by not duplicating?

And what program is it primarily for? :hmmm:

Fraps, Hypersnap, Printkey, Firestone Something, and two or three more whose titles I forgot I found in the download list of a German PC magazine. Screens should be taken from within sims, namely FS9, but also other games, maybe.

One of the above titles was close, but produced bad, blocky image quality. Fraps I did not even get to work with a hotkey.

Just a sceenshot taken and saved in the background when hitting the key, with no messages, no windows opening, no alarms, no signals, no whistles.

Tried "IrfanView"?

Tried "IrfanView"?

Didn't know until 30 seconds ago that Irfanview even did screen captures. But it does. :)

How about FSScreen?

Both Fraps and SnagIt do the job. I;ve used both in the past without any of the problems you've mentioned Sky.

I use Greenshot, and it tends to work just fine. Though you do have to change some settings in it first to make it automatically save the file.

Ultima Online Screenshot Utility

only thing it does is giving you a windows ''bip'' sound when you've taken a screenshot...but nothing else appears and screenshots are saved in the folder you've assigned it to.

Snagit v10. I think the latest version is 11 now. If you buy it your need to change its settings for the one button click and no popups etc., Snagit is a good all-in-one editor. I find there editor does the job better than photoshop.

Ditto...all I ever use.

I do not want an editor. Thansk for the input guys, I tested most titles listed here.

SnagIt costs money. Fail. :timeout:

Fraps I can use to make films, but I just can'T get it to take a single pic via hotkey - I hit the hotkey, put it takes no pic. Fail. :damn:

Greenshot opens a window even when I chose that it should save the file directly. Nice, but not what I wanted.:O:

Irfanview does what i want, it saves directly withoiut opening any kind of interface - just that it does not accept the print-key as a hotkey. Why do so many programmers not know that these special keys still are valid keys? Almost the winner, but a single hair in the soup spoils it for me. :D

The winner is FSscreen. I hit "Print", and nothing happens. Afterwards, checking the main directory of it, the print is there. Right on the mark! :yeah:

Howie's Quick Screen Capture Tool: (http://www.howiesfunware.com/install%20-%20Howies%20Screen%20Capture.exe)

freeware, of course. Can be a bit tricky on win7
