wrong title.. FLAK sorry
Hello, I'm playing sh4 from about 1 week... but years ago i was playing SHIII and after SHV... i rolled back to the better version and installed TMO, and I like those mods, unfortunately there are only 2 U-Boats, standard from the add-on...
After taking the hand on the game I tried the campaign mode.
in my campaign i got the IX D2 sub upgraded with the alberich coating, the automated heavy flak gun and the FUMO 30 radar.
i reached Tokyo for taking the supplies, and the naval command told that i can make whatever i wanted now, so i went to a friendly port for resupplky then i asked again.
They sent me in TB 69, that was really hard.. while moving on position i was attacked by many planes and even changing route while submerged doesn't help.
I decided to fight them, usually their bombs aren't so precise...
HERE i got the issue:
the plane was moving to intercept me, and the heavy flak starts shooting, right after the 2 Mgs shooted too, the heavy flak was doing hits but only when the light guns were firing the plane took fire.
when he dropped the bombs the mgs had finished their rounds but the heavy flak was still shooting at the plane, he was level-flying away and the gun was striking him because i see many explosions over and behind the tail of the plane.
The plane escaped... the same for others...
there's a bug? how i can check the config of that gun?
is it possible that the detonation distance from target is higher than the blast radius of the shell?
in the description of this cannon was wrote down that he should keep the naval command in the base... with training shells????!!!:rotfl2:
i think that this is a bit unrealistic...
thanks everyone :)
_edit_
i was just able to complete the Artillery training mission just because the ammunitions for the flaks were auto-refilling
Howdy,
Unless I am mistaken, TMO is only for US fleetboats. If you are playing U-boats, you should uninstall TMO. You are more likely to get help with any U-boat SH4 issues in the ATO section.
Good luck. :salute:

i modded some files now, my sub with 2 standard Mg and the auto heavy flak can take out planes, in a mission i took down 3 out of 4 enemy planes that i engaged, just 1 at the first pass, the other 2 survived but they did another pass on me so they died...
do you think that it's too much? i changed just a little bit the highest damage possible on mg and the damage/radius of the flak...

This is one for the history buffs out there. How often would a sub destroy an airplane? I am guessing it was rather unusual since the procedure of choice would be to dive instead of engaging - at least most of the times.

Well, 118 aircraft were shot down by u-boats http://uboat.net/history/aircraft_losses.htm and 250 u-boats were sunk by aircraft http://uboat.net/allies/aircraft/. If aircraft average 10 crew and u-boats average 50, then u-boats brought down 1180 Allied airmen and the Ubootwaffe lost 12,500 to aircraft (not counting survivors of course). I'd say shooting down more than one airplane in an engagement is unrealistic, and even taking on one should be a bad idea.

yep... so now i redone my modifications, just because the German AA shells weren't working propely...
and i saw that with the standard equipment on the sub i'm not able anymore to take down planes, i need double gun and the Automated flak...
i'm gonna post you my modifications maybe you can tell me if i need to change something
d= old damage with TMO D=modified one
___
Browing Ge 20mm (AP) d=0,5-1,5 D=0,5-1,8

US 40mm AA d=5,0-8,0 D=5,0-8,6 (Piercing=5) (radius 4-12 <- from tmo)
US 40mm AP d=3,0-5,0 D=3,0-6,0 (Piercing=20)

waiting feedbacks... maybe i can upload the zip for mod, but if noone like it I won't do it.

ah, i can say that the uboat with this modification still can't take down a bomber, yesterday when i was checking my modifications a 4 engines bomber passed over me (maybe a B17) but it was high enough that the MG cannot shoot, and he launched few bombs but with scarce effect, i can say that i take down planes when they are flying into me for drop the torpedo (why torpedo planes doesn't drop torpedoes ingame?) and is better if you flank in theyr direction so they compensate going down more and sometimes doing an overshoot = miss or forcing them to make another pass, so sometimes they will be took down.

i haven't made that changes! oh.. i know.. you wanna play with an AA cannon that doesn't have an explosion radius just for a bug.

Maybe I'm not understanding the numbers here, but a radius 4-12? Is that meters??
Did the US even have a 40mm AP round? What on earth would it be used for?

Yeah, my point exactely... see the plane? SCRAM. If downing those planes is what moves you on, try the 'forgotten battles' franchise - also from UBISOFT and similar do SH in many ways (though with a completely different development team).

You think wrong. When they were ordered to stay up and shoot rather than dive, they died like flies.
http://uboat.net/history/fight_back_order.htm
In real life, staying up and shooting was a very bad idea. Even if you won, 20mm holes in the hull could not be properly repaired and would render your boat a very ineffective surface raider. It sounds to me like you just want to play your way, which is fine, but you want to justify it as realistic, which it isn't.
