Hello Gentlemen I am Stewart from Liverpool u.k. I have been playing Silent Hunter 3 and 4 now for some time and to my view successfully. I am aged 67 yrs and not technically clever but able to do some things on a p.c. Now Silent hunter 5 is a complete mystery to me. I have a good laptop using windows 7 and plent of memory and above the satandards required of the game. The Manual is more or less useless and I find it so so hard to get the game to do what I want it to. I have seen some keyboard shortcuts that help a little but I can not get to complete the first mission after scraping through the tutorial. The mouse arrow is so unstable. Can someone give me some help to run the game successfully and to give me a run down of how to do modifications. Thanks Stewart

Welcome Lawrence,

You will need to be patient with SH5, not an easy game to start with, by all means. But the like a good bottle of wine, SH5 tends to open itself up over time, leading to many exceptional gaming moments. For me, it was hitting a capital ship, from a distance of 5000 meters, using manual TDC after finally finding a reliable method of calculating AOB (thank you modders for that AOB protractor). As a result, I ended up been depth charged at a depth of 200 meters while taking in water and unable to surface. After an hour of crisis management I was able to limp back to base. With an iron cross first rate to my lapel and awarded a new VIIb submarine by high command.

Follow kiwi_2005links, helpful to get you started. Google any queries or post them on this forum. Bear in mind that game's manual is not worth the paper it's written on, and bear in mind that there are many many bugs.

Good hunting
