Rumor.:hmmm:

Microsoft has not made an official statement about the feature yet. From the two sources, the Xbox Live Dashboard or marketplace will be accessible through the PC. Users should be able to download and play any content from the Xbox Live marketplace as well as read game discs with their PC to play them.

Hope its not true, or I'll be sticking to 7. Don't want filthy Xbox any where near my computer.

Erm... don't we already get, like, 99% of them anyway?
I call BS. With my luck I'm probably wrong though.
At any rate, they are making money selling the hardware, while on PC they can only cash in OS. Also, they can charge more for console versions: games on PC are just cheaper. And since people would still need to pay for a Live subscription, most PC gamers wouldn't touch it. Don't see how it would make sense. :hmmm:

Im hoping its for real for one Im sick of the ****ty console games ported to the pc hence Two Worlds II is the last ported game I will be buying. But im probably pushing it when I say the console games available for Windows 8 will be designed for the keyboard & mouse as well and done properly minus the lazy programmer suffering from a hangover the night before.

I'd imagine they make stuff all on 360 hardware at this stage in its life,
A year or two after launch, consoles usually end up selling at cost to cost -or even at a loss once the retailers and suppliers have had their mediocre slice of the pie. The manufacturers are more than willing to break even here as they are more concerned with establishing the widest user base possible, so that they will sell more games & subscriptions in the long run (where the real money / profit is.)
And that means pushing the hardware for cheap as as they can stomach, plus there is always that inevitable 'undercutting war' between rival console manufacturers, which constantly forces the price of hardware down.
With that in mind its not such a bad idea for MS, regardless -Windows 8 will end up making them way more money than all the 360 units on the planet x2.
But I agree it would not be such a big deal for the average PC gamer.... not to mention a bit confusing for the market.
Mega PC anyone? A PC with a buit in MD/Genesis cartridge slot from the early 90's. it went down like a lead balloon.

I just don't understand how it makes sense. For example, the upcoming Deus Ex: normal price for PC is 55,- while it costs 70,- for the 360. Who in their right mind with a PC capable of running it would get the 360 version?
Oh wait... who in their right mind buys an underpowered, unreliable, loud-as-a-vacuum-cleaner console to begin with? Millions of people. :hmmm:

I don't think i'd ever use that option tbh. PC Gamer here all the way. So are they looking to eventually halt and phase out production of the console then? You would think so.
It won't really matter to me either way, having that option on my rig. Prob never use it.

If it happens, you could end up with one multi version format. since the xbox 360 basically is a pc anyway.
So long as customisable graphics and control settings remain intact, you wouldnt know the difference.

No, you couldn't. Xbox CPU is fundamentally different architecture; version that runs both on Win and the 360 is (next to) impossible.
And emulation is far too expensive to pull off, so simply emulating the 360 architecture on PC would need a rather beefy system... come to think of it, how were they planning to pull this off if not with emulation?
Still calling BS. Either that or they offer an expansion card with the actual 360 hardware to plug into your PC.

Fair enough, yep emulation would be incredibly stupid - they would never do this in a million years.

Yeah and Microsoft will make sure that expansion card will sell for around $1200 bucks! :haha:

They'd have to, or they would undercut their own console sales.
I guess another option is a sort of OnLive service: pop the 360 disc in your drive and launch an application. Application verifies the disc and establishes a feed to a remote machine running that game.
Result: stuck with 720p max resolution, which will look absolutely terrible unless your monitor is 720p or you allow banding around the image. 360 controller required. Low quality sound due to compression. Further degraded visuals due to compression. Rather noticeable input lag on top of regular lag.
But at least you can play your 70,- 360 game on PC while there's likely a PC version available for 50,-.
Sounds tempting, right?
Maybe they just build in an interface so you can connect to your 360. Not a clue what good that would do you though. :hmmm:

Maybe this Windows 8 will be streamlined in such a way to handle these problems people are talking about, if true I doubt MS would add this in 8 if they knew its going to cause major headaches for them & PC gamers. MS might pull a trick or two wait and see. It probably is BS, I'm hoping it ain't as this will kill port releases for the pc. That's my only gripe.

I think you all missed the main thought behind that article?
:hmmm:
IF the next X-Box does not have Back Wards Compatability?
Windows 8 could insure a longer life (read that as income) for 360 Games.
I've always looked for someone to do something to Cross-platform Games and such.
It's a wise move in many ways when you think about it.
Imagine doing your Taxes on an X-Box Next-Gen!
:haha:

The xbox can only profit from a move like this - if they don't let a dumbed-down OS run on it, like a "home edition" for the 360. The restrictions the xbox has, are what make the 360 terrible as a media center, both in functionality and usability.
