A French A-1 Skyraider collided with the P-51D Mustang "Big Beautiful Doll". The Mustang pilot bailed out, but the plane was a total loss. The Skyraider landed, minus a few feet of its right wing.

Very unfortunate to lose a plane like that :(
But glad everyone is okay. And the Skyraider yet again shows what it's made of :salute:
Bugger. At least the pilot got out ok, which is a relief...but damn, it's not been a good month for vintage US aircraft. Such a terrible shame.
Some pics of the Skyraider as she came in to land:

Everyone walked away unscathed.....that is the most important point.

Yeah the old Skyraider is one tough bird indeed the Mustang on the other was never known for its durability too bad ofr the Mustang though.
An Air Force pilot back in Nam in 66 or 67 was flying one the larger multi seat A-1s the E model I think when his wing man got hit by enemy fire and managed to crash his plane near a just abandoned Special Forces base. This guy made a couple of cannon passes to keep the NVA away from his buddies(whom he had no idea if the guy was even still alive or not) then he landed his A-1 on a near by road jumped out and found his wing man they ran back a flew away I dont think you could have pulled that off in very many aircraft not fixed wing ones anyway. The pilot received the MOH for that action the A-1 is inside the USAF museum at Wright-Patterson.
