I've not been long back from the Northern Model Show 2011 which had it's venue almost 2 mile down the road from my place of abode.

The standard of exhibit was very high IMHO and I took a shed load of pictures.

I doubt my photoraphy skills (or lack of will do the exhibits justice) but I'll post them here for your viewing asap.

What's this then? Eskimo hotties?

LOL.....model aircraft, AFV's, subs, figurines and dioramas etc.

Many of them US themes in fact.

I'm currently downsizing them to jpeg format and should be in a position to populate the first post in an hour or so :salute:

So where's your models (your massive diecast collection) at the show?

The diecast are safely stored awaiting an introduction into the man cave.

These are kits and scratchbuilt examples from plast, card etc.

I know I keep saying it but I just hope my photographs give a fair representation of some of the excellent examples I've yet to post.

I like the floats & boats pictures.

The "models" jokes remind me of a personal story. Back in '78 I was working at a local hobby shop. When I told a friend I had a job at Douglas Models his immediate response was "Cool! Can you get me a date?"

UG was the squadron code used by 16, 310 and 1654 Squadrons during the war http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_RAF_Squadron_Codes

This link will explain what aircraft used....typically no Fairey Battle

I doubt it was 1654 Squadron

http://www.raf-lincolnshire.info/1654hcu/1654hcu.htm

I appreciate it doesn't help identify the aircraft type but the model builder may have attached historically innacurate decals.

It definitely looks Grumman. Only thing I could find with the tail config, landing gear, bubble canopy and 4 bladed prop.

The D-Day markings were a red herring. The F8F didn't see combat service in WWII.

Thanks for posting those fine pics of beautiful made models.

It made me remember, when I was younger and modelbuilding was one of my favorite.

those models I prefered was

1 AVRO Lancaster
2 F-15
3 F-14
4 Spitfire
5 F-18
And a few more.

Later on I got more into building military ships especially 1:350 or 1:250 scale ships from WWII and America.

My favorite was
New Jersey
Missouri
Bismarch
and som more I can't remember the name

I've tried to build, tanks lorry a.s.o, but that's wasn't me.

I'd just put it down to the SIG merging all the aforementioned aircraft together like their AWACS/VC10 mash-up.

She was living next to an airbase called Eggebek http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/de/thumb/b/b5/MFG2.jpg/150px-MFG2.jpg

These guys just had taken off, just a couple of meters high, you still could see the pilots. There were Starfighters, too.

I love a good diorama. The best I ever saw in person was when the IPMS national US show was held here in Salt Lake City. The centerpiece was this model which now resides in the Smithsonian Institution's Air-And Space Museum. It represents the 1924 around-the-world flight by the US Army Air Service, with four Douglas World Cruisers.

The diorama represents the planes making a fuel stop at Seward, Alaska in April 1924. The people were all converted from flight figures, and include a soldier strolling with his girl and the crew of a fishing boat who came out to see the planes.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a325/SailorSteve/WorldCruiserDiorama.jpg

The second picture is a close-up of the boat and crew. What you can't see is the detail, most wonderful of which is the cards laid out on the boat's galley table, left there when the players heard the planes landing.

I just wish there were pictures I could show of all those details.

Yep, you can't beat a decent diorama and that one you've posted definitely looks top drawer.

The overall winner of the show I attended was a 3' long diorama of a German WWII armored train travelling to the front, full to the hilt with every piece of ordnance you could imagine.

The crazy thing is nobody seems to have taken any photographs of it because those of us who attended the show are busy asking one another on another forum if anyone has any photos

Yeah...spent many an hour looking at his work with a great deal of envy and admiration.

Didn't realise I had photographed the diorama

I've eight more photographs to convert before posting but two of them are of a diorama which IMHO is arguably better than the armoured train.

jesus. that alot of models. great work too.

Tigers, panthers, panzers, Some Flakpanzer Ostwinds, half-tracks, Corsairs, mustangs, F-16s, i think i saw an M1 Abrams, hurricanes, spitfires, German tri-planes, bi-planes, Surveilance aircraft, neat bombers, panzerkamfwagens, STuGs, T-34s, shermans, BF109s, FW-190s, A-10 warthogs, harriers, I think i saw a Leopald, Panzer IVs, jeeps, Japanese Zeros,Japanese Oscars, Pershing tanks, Stukas, beauteous destroyers and heavy cruisers.

Yeah, im a military nerd. I can tell from first glance what each of these are. Some new modern jets i havent seen though. I do, have a huge poster that my uncle gave me hanging above my bed with some of the biggest and baddest modern jets from all parts of the world.

edit: how could i forget to mention the KING tigers, South Dakota battleship, Buffalos, Apache Attack heli, Catalinas, APCs, Priests, and the best of all, the reason were all here, the VII class subs and beautiful nuclear subs. I dont think i saw an I-400 though.

It's funny you should say that because the guy who was showing the submarines definitely had one on the table iirc....looks like I didn't take a shot

I've been watching this thread with great interest since Jim posted, but now I'm totally geeking out.

Dioramas are what I'd do if I had talent - I wore out copies of Shep Paine's books on dioramas and armored vehicle modeling; the fact that he was an armored trooper (at first like I wanted to be, and then like I was) only made it more interesting to me.

Some amazing work here - the larger scale armor models start to give a viewer a sense of just how beastly tanks are.

I couldn't say because there were no details alongside the diorama.
