Making the Jump to mods and man. TDC need help

So Im starting SH5 agian and aposed to using the 123 targeting system that makes it stupidly easy I started trying to use man. TDC after :damn: with SH5 stock going decided to check the offical forums....:haha: So found a link over here and created a mod list to help me experiance a better game.

Big improvment to the game. Right now for my problem Ive encountered a small convoy ruffly work out course, my bows Angle to course and AOB. As you can see from the bellow screen shot. however I get ships range via map, Mills of my AP, and the stadimeter. all putting the ship at ~1300m at the desired AOB position marked on the map of 116Deg. Got the speed via Tooltip, Stadimeter and timing the ships Bow to stern travel time, all saying ~12N.

So when the ship reaches the AOB point marker i input my AOB value of 116Deg to stb however the projected course(Brown line) of the fish is behind the Ship. So i enter 116 to port. Fire my fish and the all pass ahead of the ship. Thankfully I saved before this and have rerun several times but whatever I do even if I aim for the Bridge/Stern/Bow. My fish Just hit the bow or shoot past the bow before its there.

Whatever I seam to do makes no diffrence Im prob missing somthing stupid any help would be nice! Thanks in advance

Hi Redroth,

You are not far away from getting this correct.
The problem you are having is your AOB.

When using the protracter, start in FRONT (path) of the ship.
Draw to the ship centre and then to your boat.

You are getting 116 deg but the correct AOB is 64deg

Ah i thought it was somthing stupid like that Ill try that now! and get back to you, hopefully this will make my experiance better ive only used auto aim in SH3/4 so far!

Right that has made a huge diffrence Im now consistantly hiting the ship (with fast torp speeds). However Mark where I want to hit with the centre of the scope. Fist shot i am half way between the bow and bridge and second at the bridge. however both shot seam to impact where I aimed the first shot. Ive tryed this several times I am still noticing misses with the 2 lower speed settings on the T1 Torps (still shot pre bow). Any advice or conculsions as to what I doing wrong?

1) Make sure you got target's speed right. More - and your torpedoes are ahead of target (or hit the bow). Less - and torpedoes either hit close to stern or simply pass it. Even at short range, 1 knot error may turn to be a miss if the target is short.

2) You don't "mark" with a scope. You should hold your scope completely still at the same bearing you calculated AOB for (that's your shooting bearing). Then you fire torpedoes when the desired part of the target crosses scope's center: thus, at this bearing this part of the ship is at calculated AOB, at calculated range, moving with calculated speed. It's just like each part was a different ship at the same course and speed.

3) The greater the gyro angle, the greater the error (I mean physical error in torpedo's final course). Try positioning your shot such that gyro angle is within -10..+10 degrees for best results. IIRC, you can't see actual angle with stock SH5 UI, but at least you can estimate it by looking at the solution line in TAI.

Torpedo speed is a tactical thing that has little to do with hitting when you've done the calculations right - TDC calculates gyro angle taking torpedo speed into account. Faster torpedo just needs less time to cross paths with target. Try switching torpedo speed while looking at solution line in TAI, you'll see how it jumps "closer" and "farther" away from shooting bearing (though at short range difference should be small), but the torpedo should still hit around the same spot. This paragraph assumes nor you nor your torpedoes are spotted. For example, if torpedo is spotted, target will try to evade it (change speed and/or course, which then implies that your calculations are no longer correct).

Take a look at these Stoianm's "Hit and Run" videos (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1636925&postcount=51). He uses more realism settings and mods, but shot plotting is exactly the same.

Thanks got chance to watch that really good. I see where im going wrong and my major fault is not taking long enough to work out a targets speed. Will try this out tommorow if i get time.
