Hey there,

I used to run the game with MO and other couple of mods on Windows XP with no issues.
Now I finally managed to getmyself Windows 7 64bit and its working fine.
But now SH5 is no more playable when I load the game with my prefered mods (such as MO) the game is very slow it has stutters every few seconds and freezes every few seconds. When I unload the mods the game seems to run stable.
I tried to find a fix for this Issue as with Win XP the game worked perfect on my Machine.
I made a clean SH5 install and clean MODS install,
My Graphics Driver is the latest Catalyst Driver available.
W7 is updated to its latest version.

I would really like to play this game on W7 so I can use the Speec Recognition Mod. Does anyone of you have any solution why SH5 is so slow on W7 ?

My PC spec:
AMD Phenom 9950 Quad @2,6Ghz
ATI Radeo HD 5770 1GB Graphics Card,
4gb Ram

P.S there is no difference if I Run the game on lowest or highest settings.

In the Patch for MO (0.02) look for mod AntiLag. Limit your fps to about 32 and see how it works. Should solve the problem.

Latest drivers aren't always the best drivers! I know, if you were running old drivers the first thing we'd say is get the latest! But maybe roll back a driver or two previously and see how it goes. :hmmm:

Actually I have that and the value is set to 30fps but that doesnt solve the problem, also I changed the value "RenderAheadLimit" to see if it works better but it doesnt.

I dont get it when I boot Win XP and run the game it works perfect, but With W7 its totally unplayable

I think I will give that one a try thanks.

Do you guys have any other tips that might help solve the problem ?

I rollbacked to CCC 11.3 Driver ( The same I use in XP I think) But it still does not fix the terrible freezes

Ahoy!

Sounds like the same problem I'm having. With Win7 64bit, AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+, NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT, 4gt RAM.
I get huge lag and black screen every two seconds.
Mine works fine without the MO though.

You should try without the MO mod and see if thats the problem.
I think I read someone else talking about something similar in the MO thread. (without finding fix)

I gave up finding the problem as I'm getting new PC very soon. I'm hoping that will fix it.

Wow many many thanks to you sir, I enabled Shadow Improvement MODLR and the game just works fine now !

But still kinda strange why this is making such a huge difference because on Windows XP i did not have these issues.

Anyways thanks alot for that advice!

Glad to hear that it worked. :salute:

Why does it make such a difference - I'm not sure. You also have to consider that Win7 is much heavier on your graphics to begin with, especially if you have all the pretty Aero effects on in addition that it is heavier on resourses all-together.

Though I have to admit, even though I vote for Unix any day, Win7 seems to be a very stable and efficient system.

shadows are one of the most grafics resource draining things in the game, you cant begin to imagine just how many things are tied into it.

if you took shadows out of the game it would play at light speed :o

Ahoy Captains!! Arrrggghhh :arrgh!:!!!!

It doesn't have to be a problem with Windows 7 everytime - I have Xp and can have trouble too - sometimes some mods can make trouble too - I have run the orginal game without trouble - but with some mods then I have trouble... I don't know why - I have notice that after some of the mods I have encounter that the game "jumps out to windows" - can't tell exactly wich mod causes the trouble....
But I have tried Open Horizons and some other mods - some combinations maybe can cause trouble, and the order or way the mods are installed - sometimes it's just work with, reinstall the game - orginal - then it seems to work...
But "IRAI_0_0_30_ByTheDarkWraith" is recommended for a little more realism in the game...

I'm using Win7 32 bit with 4 gig and had some issues so I download "Game Booster" and this helped me.

Try ditching the shadow improvement mod. I tracked it down to the reason mine was lagging soooooooooooooo bad.

It's a nice mod and all, but it just made my laptop crawl.
Funny when I can run Crysis maxed out, along with another game, but this one lags along like I'm back on my old win98 comp.
