Welcome to Subsim, Neal! Glad to have you aboard!
Wait, what? :O:
Hi there!
This is a little late presentation post but better late then never:)
I'm not new here but havent posted anything just used your awesome forum to help me with understanding SH4.
My name is Robert and I'm from sweden. I love silent hunter it brings out the sneaky side of me I guess.
Now after the released SH5 and the flaws it brought I still decided to take it up after I read it could be great with some mods.
Reading my ass of and watching videos learning the mods which by the way is very hard if you're new but I'm getting there.
ps! I'll ask for help soon enough;)
Welcome to Subsim, Neal! Glad to have you aboard!
Wait, what? :O: :haha:

07-01-11, 05:55 PM
Greetings. My handle is Ensign Dunsel. Why 'Ensign Dunsel' you ask? Well I got that from "The Ultimate Computer" episode of Star Trek: The Original Series. In that episode, Spock defined dunsel as a part that serves no purpose. So I am taking the newbie to new level. Not only do I find it difficult to win, I rarely entertain any towering aspirations in my ability to win at an entry level, hence the rank, 'ensign'.
Psych! ;) Actually 'Ensign Dunsel' is a motivator. Now that I have more time to do so, I am working to get to the point when I will stop using the auto-crew in Dangerous Waters (my favorite game). If only I can memorize the details. So now I am here at this forum to learn from the masters the nuances of this simulation. Thanks!
Hey guys, Just a quick hello from me. Long time member (2007), but not played SH until later today when SH5 arrives.. I've been watching the 'Lets Play' series by JonJeremy whilst waiting for it to arrive. Time to do some reading up on mods, patches and tutorials :)

I had not played a subsim game since AOD. I saw a two pack (SH2/SH3) in a store and picked it up. From there I found Subsim.com and GWX, next came SH4 (have SH5 but it sucks). I can't tell you guys how impressed I am with the material you produce for the games. I just want to say Thank You and keep up the Great work.

I found this site while trying to find mods for SH4 Uboat Missions, and started off playing SH2 and moved up from there. My current computer won't let me play SH5!:wah::yawn: (Mac Intel 2009 version) I got into SH, because I was trying to find a sub game that I played back in the early 90's on some game console. It was just of American subs in the pacific theater, but I like SH much better, and was very happy when SH4 came out.

My question is how many people still play Silent Hunter regularly. Also how do I upload some of my skin ideas to the forum thingy?

My guess regarding the numbers of people playing SH3 would be.....despite its age it is possibly still the most popular (hold back the witch hunters).
As for uploading your skins, simply PM Neal and he would normally allow you access to upload your work.

My question is how many people still play Silent Hunter regularly?
Judging by the activity in the SH3 forum, (not to mention the incredible range of mods), I'd say quite a lot...
It's one of those rare games that people keep coming back to time and time again. For me, it's been on my hard disk almost since day one and probably always will be for the foreseeable future.
When you're dealing with an all-time favorite, age is largely irrelevant. So sail on and enjoy!

I just uploaded a new skin for the IXB U-boat and am somewhat proud of it. However I know it can be much better if you could take a look at it and judge it that would be a great help. It is titled..IXB Third Reich paint scheme... I have no photos of it however as I have not the slightest clue how to do that. If someone could get back quickly so I can keep working I would really like the critism.
My question is how many people still play Silent Hunter regularly.

Hi everybody.
I've been spending my days on Silent Hunter 3,4 and 5.
I've realized this website exists last month, when I started playing SH5 and needed something that would prevent me from deleting it and never playing any game like it again. I was very disappointed with it, but then I installed some of these excellent mods and the game is now great. :yeah:

Good morning. I'd like to introduce myself. I've been playing Silent Hunter III for several years. The game itself was given to me by my son Micheal, hence the spelling of my screen name. Sadly, Michael did not return from Iraq. Go to Google, Michael Balsley 3/61 2nd. Infantry, if you wish. I do not want to get into politics, period. But, I did feel to explain how and why I play the game.
As time went by and the more I wanted to come back from a patrol, I started reading all I could about U-Boats and some one in the SH3 Forum mentioned about reading "Das Boote" and also to watch the movie. Great movie by the way. And I run a vanilla game for the most part with the available mods from SubSim with no"super mods". I'm at the point where I want to add a super mod. I can usually get up to 80,000 tons per patrol, as the Atlantic convoys can get very interesting. LOL

I'm very sorry to learn of your terrible loss...no parent should ever have to lose their children and I salute your sons memory :salute:
If your thinking of a supermod you have the choice of a few that includes GWX, NYGM and WAC amongst others.
Have a look in the various sections of the forum to help you decide what you think may be the best one for yourself or ideally, try them all in separate installs.
Best Wishes

Hello Subsimmers,
I have played Silent Hunter since #1 and have always had great fun. I always check what's happening on this forum and really admire all those sea dogs who put their time, talent and effort into recreating this amazing simmulation; my hat's off to you.
I don't have experience with computer programming but I am tied to a computer ten or more hours in the day. I'm a photographic retoucher for an advertising agency in Chicago and have been doing this for 40 years.
I'm sure alot of you use Photoshop. That's my tool of choice in photoretouching and illustration.

Hi folks
I've been a bit of sleeper on this forum, I'm afraid. But have to say I'm blown away by the strength of the modding community here. There is no better example of the power of an internet community than this forum. Since 1984 and spectrum flight flight simulator - simulations have always been of interest. With GWX, Silent Hunter 3 blows away the competition in any simulation arena with it's immersive depth.
On that note, I'm looking for OLC Gold which I had on my previous computer - looking to install again on a new computer..
:salute: And a side note, you know what you can get here....so good luck.

Hi there. My name's Ken & I'm from London. Traditionally I've been a seasoned flight sim player. However, a year or two ago I spent a very enjoyable few days playing a friend's copy of Silent Hunter 3. My kill/loss ratio was... distinctly average... but i did really enjoy plowing the waves with a set of torps!
A while ago I saw SH4 on offer at my local game store so I thought I'd take the plunge (no pun intended ;)). I'm a big fan of adding mods to my games and a google search very quickly brought me here as THE place to learn about all things sub-sim related.
I'm a complete novice at sub sims so I'm looking forwards to learning a huge amount & enjoying what is for me a new sort of sim experience :)

Well, a bit about myself: I'm kinda new to all the simulation games, but so far i've loved all that they give and ask for, specially the concentration and hard work you need to be successful in them. So far i've played SH3 and now i have Sh5 (quite a buggy and a little disappointing when compared to SH3 for example) but i also like other type of games like Armed Assault (huge fan since Arma 1 and now on Arma 2: OA) and some rts like Men of War. Finally, i'm 24 years old and i live in Mexico, i hope i can find here someone that could give me some advice about how to become a good captain and make some friends to play with.
Cheers.

This is my first post here even though I've been visiting the site since Noah was a boy.

Hi to everyone at subsim. I've always been attracted to the submarines and naval construction (both civil and militar), but it was three year ago -when i visited the Delfin S-61 (http://www.revistanaval.com/noticias/4-2004-05-11-0000-00), and old french designed sub wich served in the spanish Armada from 1973 to 2004- that i found myself reading about subs, naval strategy, an playing SH3. Now i'm playing SHV. Thankfully the amount of mods avaliable in the community takes the game to another level.

Hello to all the new and old guys :salute:
Hi All,
Thanks for hosting this forum and all the work the members do to provide useful information and awesome mods! I recently got SH5 after pining for something a little different than the usual fare; I of course ran in to numerous issues right away, the majority of which I have now solved thanks to this site! The game is now much more playable, and I understand what I'm doing rather better than I did before (though as someone not terribly mathematically inclined, I'm not touching the TDC with a 3 meter pole for the foreseeable future). I haven't played a sub sim in many many years (not since 688i was new), but I do love a good simulator, and am having a blast!

Hi,
I'm playing submarine simulations since Silent Service and after
a lomg break I'll give SH5 a try despite all bad reviews, because I think
with some nice mods from this site it can be a quite good game.
In real life my name is Matthias and I'm a german guy who lives in
Poland since 15 years, because I found my love here.

Just wanted to check in 4 the first time...Love Silent Hunter 5 had part 2 growing up but computher was not that great back then---Anyways big type of fan with games like Sh5( Grew up playing Panzer General/P.T.O/Western and Eastern front just to name a few...But I enjoy Forums and see myself being a lifetime member...
Hello everybody, I'm new to the community. I've been playing sub games since Silent Service II. I still have it installed on my 386. More recently I've been playing Silent Hunter 3 and 4. So can anyone tell me, is SH5 worth getting if I already enjoy SH3+GWX?

My advice would be to purchase it (it's cheap these days) and make your own judgement but if you do purchase it do so via the SubSim Amazon link at the bottom of this page, it won't cost you any extra and SubSim will receive a small % of commission which goes toward maintaining this site.
Pleased your enjoying your GWXperience http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/welcome.gif

Hello all,
My name is Damien, been playing sub sims since I first found Silent Hunter 2 sitting on a shelf many years ago and decided to buy it.
I guess my favourite of the series would have to be SH3+GWX and although i've had SH4 for years, i'm still a learner when it comes to sinking ships in this sim, so i'm currently trying real hard to improve in this one.
As for SH5, I was extremely excited about this release, but I just don't find it has the "staying power" of the rest of the series so i'm gonna leave it aside for a while and see what the great modders out there can put together for it.
What I really really would love to see some time, would be an updated Destroyer Command compatible with a future Silent Hunter title.
Anyways, nice to see this site so popular as its really helpful.

Rick Fortens
07-30-11, 07:22 PM
Hello,
I understand I have to introduce myself.
So my real name is Richard Fortin. I am a Quebecer, so my native language is French and I’m trying to improve my English here (Is not so bad, isn’t It ?). I have already tried to contribute to Subsim but, first, I have little money and, second, I have once proposed a mod of my own to finally realised that it was already been done : is it something that was not already been done in that site ?
“How I have found Subsim ?” Because of the answer to the second question “what your favorite game is ?” ie Silent Hunter 3 and, before, 2 (not have the money to buy the machine able to run SH 5 yet). In fact, I visited site about U-boote and fall one day on this mod site.
So I have introduced myself.
Now, I would like to leave you on some questions, reflections and suggestions :
Do you ever noticed that this games (SH 2 and 3) entirely happen in the surface of an earth in a form of a tube with a diameter longer than the real one ? I realised myself that the day I tried to edit a mission reanacting the hunt for Bismark : the distances were to long, the boats have to run at impossible speeds (ex: 64 knots for the Bismarck). I mean, the length of 1 degree of longitude at 80 degrees of latitude is the same as the length of 1 degree of longitude at the equator. Is it something to do about that ? That’s one of the thing I have always wanted to change in that game. Another one is the number of beds in the subs: not enough at my taste and not enough also, I figure, in the historic reality.
Also, suggestions: is it possible to create a mod, an editor, that could help less gifted moders to change themselves things in files like “menu_1024_768”, etc ?
Finally, I’ll leave you on this: what’s would be really cool would be to be able to play on multiplayers mode with each and every player taking a role in the same U-boot; one the Kaleun, one the sound man, etc. That’s would be great !
Long life to Subsim and good sea.
Jimbuna

Hello everyone, I've been on here a year or two but this is my first post.
I just bought SH5 last week, but when the server went down for a bit last night I got back into SH3. I'm a big fan of the GWX mod in particular. I've been really impressed with this site and all the hard work you modders put in. Thanks!
